Yeah obviously I’m being selfish, as I live in this area, but come on. Iowa is blacked out of 6 teams, so if you can include the Des Moines metro, you’re also reaching a market of ~700,000 potential NEW fans if they are able to watch the Twins readily.
Isn’t that cubs territory? I am surprised the Twins are so far into Brewers territory though.
If there are no blackouts then [MLB.TV](http://MLB.TV) can stream the games in any place in the country. central Iowa will get access, the map just shows claimed territory for the twins. Bally sports and other RSNs use to claim all of Iowa to get you to subscribe to cable or sat.
Unless MLB TV considers us out of market and we can watch on MLB TV with no blackout.
I agree Iowa is Twins Territory. However, Right now you should be rooting hard for those Royals against the Yanks while that gets sorted.
I wish there was a list or a better map. I cannot tell if my county is considered in-market or not.
This looks like DMAs which is probably how they segment markets.
People are readying WAY too much into this map. It doesn’t even come close to representing the actual Twins rights area. There are big parts of WI highlighted in red that can watch right now with [mlb.tv](http://mlb.tv), because it’s only Brewers territory.
It’s another example of how the team just absolutely insists on shooting itself in the foot with piss poor management.
If you live anywhere in Iowa, you’ll be almost certainly be able to buy the Twins TV package and the Brewers package too. So instead of being screwed by not being able to watch at all, eventually you’ll probably be screwed by having to pay for 6 different $100 packages if you want to watch the Twins, Brewers, Cubs, White Sox, Cardinals, and Royals….
This must be an updated map? I live in Western South Dakota and have always been in the Manfred Zone, I mean Blackout Zone
Iowa deserves no sports
It’s actually better for you. You can just get MLB TV and get all games including the Twins.
We will have to pay for the Twins separate from the MLB Package.
Edit: assuming this map is even right.
How does this work? Do I have to pay for mlbtv to get the twins?’
This concept of territory and such is weird in the sense that … it’s the internet, we’re not limited by channels here …
This map is not the Twins online rights map, it’s their TV markets map. Apparently the Twins marketing team didn’t bother to realize that the TV markets and the online rights areas are not the same thing.
For Iowa and South Dakota, it’s only showing the parts of the state in the Rochester, Sioux City, and Sioux Falls markets – even though all of both states is part of the online rights area.
For Wisconsin, it’s showing all of the Eau Claire/LaCrosse market, as well the parts of the Minneapolis and Duluth markets that spill into Wisconsin, even though only a few of the counties in that area actually part of the Twins online rights area.
The area in red is probably where they will try to put the Twins on cable, but its a safe bet that if you live in Des Moines or Cedar Rapids or Rapid City you’ll be able to buy the Twins online package, just like if you live in Eau Claire you’ll still be able to watch via the regular out of market [mlb.tv](http://mlb.tv) just like you always have.
Iowa has more than a thousand people?
This might actually be a topic the Pohlads actually care about, that’s more money 🙃
Nah f iowa
Red on the map: watch on twins.tv $100
White on the map: watch on mlb.tv $100
Are there a lot of Twins fans in Des Moines? With the I-Cubs I’d think there would be more Cubs fans.
The Cedar Rapids Kernals are in Cedar Rapids so it makes sense.
Iowa, it’s such a lovely state in part due to its lack of over-crowding…
but I feel like this post could’ve easily been called the same thing – except “missing out on potentially *hundreds* of fans…” – without being wildly less accurate.
In all seriousness, I agree with you completely. I have family in Ames who root for the Twins. Every dollar counts.
