GAME RECAP: Penguins at Red Wings (10.10.24) | Joel Blomqvist Earns Victory in NHL Debut

Rookie Joel Blomqvist was in the net for his NHL debut as the Penguins travelled to Detroit for their first road game of the 2024.25 season. DeBrincat opened the scoring just shy of four minutes into the game, but Anthony Beauvillier responded, tying things up before the end of the 1st period (his first as a Penguins player) and scoring again less than five minutes into the 2nd period. Both Drew O’Connor and Marcus Peterson added to Pittsburgh’s lead, but Tarasenko got one back for the home team. It was 4-2 in favor of Pittsburgh to begin the 3rd period. Erik Karlsson notched his first of the season on the power play to increase the Penguins’ lead to 5-2. DeBrincat would net his second of the night on the man-advantage, but it would not be enough. Kevin Hayes scored his first goal as a member of the Penguins to conclude the scoring, giving Blomqvist his first win in his first game. Evgeni Malkin recorded his 800th career assist tonight, adding to the festivities.
