Probably took him 20 minutes to walk across the field
Witt Jr. has that dog in him. Made sure to watch so he could get even more motivated going forward.
Great players are wired differently. Witt will have those images of another team celebrating seared into his memory and use it as motivation.
Costas and Darling (as well as others) talked about how players do this sort of thing, watching the other team celebrate on the field, to basically savor the pain and the moment and to motivate themselves to never have to feel that way ever again.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of the opposing team’s players go over and give them a respectful dap like that. I guess I would be worried the player wouldn’t be in the mood/needed some alone time.

The Royals have made the playoffs 3 times ever in my life. We were so spoiled that the first two were both WS appearances and a WS title in 2015.
BWJ has brought life back to Kansas City baseball and there is a path forward. Just nervous for the future cause these opportunities don’t come around very often. Need to sign some bats, and if pitching takes even a small step back from this year, then we’re a .500 team at best. I’ve learned to very cautiously optimistic with the Royals, at best.

Bobby Witt Jr still on the rail motionless 10 minutes after the Yankees had won got me way harder than I expected it would on TV last night.
You can just tell how much he gives a fuck about his team, his city, and everyone who supports him and he supports back. Its crystal clear he’ll be in October many times after this moment – but it hurts to see how much this weighs on him now.
Nothing but respect to him and of course to Stanton too.

Costas, in a monotone: Stanton slowly walks to the Royals dugout. His legs are worn, he can’t move as he once did. He can’t play the field any more. How many more steps does he have left in those legs? Can the Yankees keep relying on him to be part of a postseason lineup? Or is this the sunset of a great career?
Reminds me of this Wayne Gretzky story after losing the 1983 Stanley Cup
