Giancarlo Stanton Is Yankees’ Most Clutch Star “Since (Derek) Jeter” – former executive
October 11, 2024
Is it true? I can't really remember any other Yankee in recent times who has been as clutch as Stanton in postseason.
I know it's difficult to compare Jeter with anyone. But I feel Stanton's importance in our squad cannot be understated. What do you think about this take btw?

Arod 09 is more recent (and clutch) than jeter
It’s true. Dude has been doing it since he’s gotten here. I don’t want to know what this series would have looked like if he wasn’t playing.
Idc if he his .200 with a .500 OPS if his postseason production is the way it is. He can be like Yankee legend (on field only) Jim Leyritz
He was certainly one of the main reasons they advanced this round for sure.
But to call him the most clutch since Jeter is a biiiit of a stretch.
However, it is nice to see a healthy Stanton actually produce again. Got too used to him going 2-50 with 40 Ks over two week stretches between IL stints during the reg season the past few years.
That’s pretty sad honestly that’s it’s been 20+ years since the last clutch player and Stanton has been clutch but not even close to the level of Jeter
Tanaka has to be on this list. Absolute nails in the playoffs.
Been saying this for almost three years now.
Matsui was pretty clutch
Hmm good question – think it probably has to be him or Godzilla
Raul Ibanez was nuts.
So glad Stanton is getting his flowers. This guy says all the right things when he’s struggling. Never complains, no excuses and there is simply no one who hits a ball that hard when he connects with one. I hope he retires a yankee.

He was only able to play in 2 games against the Astros in the ’19 LCS. We won both
Leyritz!
Too premature – how many WS have we won since he has been a Yankee?
Stantons .987 OPS is like top 10 all time for Yankee history in players with like 15-20+ games
david cone bb his game three win in 1996 against the braves started the dynasty
For just 2009 A-Rod was on fire.
Loved his ALDS, but let’s not pretend Stanton didn’t had an awful postseason in 19 and 22.
And he doesn’t even have legs
His HR’s per at bat in the playoffs with a minimum AB number is only exceeded by Babe Ruth. That says it all.
Awful lot of you motherfuckers are forgetting our Dark Knight and emoji king, Didi Gregorious
hideki matsui was that guy in the playoffs. in 56 games, .312 avg, .541 slg, .933 ops, 10 HR, 39 RBI. my playoff GOAT and pedros daddy

Best postseason WRC+ of any Yankee in the Wild Card Era (min. 120 PA)
You might be surprised at who else is above Jeter on this list…
In 31 postseason games (3 WC, 5 ALDS, 2 ALCS), he has 128 plate appearances. He’s 31/112 with 13 walks, slashing .277/.344/.643 with a .987 OPS.
He’s been excellent. It’s actually a much higher OPS than his regular season (.871).
