Will the 2013 Nuggets be forgotten in history?

The 2012-13 Denver Nuggets had not only their best season in franchise history but also their best one in any season with Carmelo Anthony on the roster winning a franchise-record 57 wins which is good enough to secure the 3rd seed with Ty Lawson as their leading scorer at 16.7 points and it also features Andre Iguodala but only for one season.

However, they would once again lose in the first round to the 6th seed Golden State Warriors in 6 games. After that, Iguodala would leave in the offseason for the Warriors and even once accused him of betraying the team. The Nuggets wouldn't return to the Playoffs until 2019.

  1. I mean a lot of great teams are going to be forgotten because of that warriors stretch. Those Harden Rockets teams around 2016-18 would’ve won the trophy almost any other time if the Warriors weren’t fuckin ridiculous.

  2. This was the team/season that got me into basketball. Wilson Chandler doesn’t get enough love

  3. This was the season that I had the most hope for since I became a fan in the Melo-Chauncey years, so this team will always have a place in my heart.

So bummed Gallo went down. Pretty homer take, but without injuries, team could have gone to the Finals since I remember the team matched up decently against San Antonio and Memphis that year.

Regular season doesn’t mean a whole lot but I remember Nuggets went like 3-1 vs Spurs and the one loss being a point or two. Same story with Memphis if I recall.

  4. They weren’t particularly good. I mean, does anyone remember the Clippers lineup before Blake Griffin and CP3 joined DJ to form Lob City?

  5. This was my first season I got into basketball, and I chose Denver because of Ty Lawson. I will always remember this team.

  6. I hope not, we seriously over-performed after trading Melo and then the warriors series/Iggy drama left a bad taste in ppls mouth. But it was a great season.

  7. If Gallo hadn’t gotten hurt they were poised to do damage… ahhh what could’ve been.

  8. That season is what initially got my love for the Nuggets. Ty, Will, Gallo and of course the Manimal. Oh yeahz and the Benedict Arnold over here.

Add to that McGee, Mozgov, Andre Miller and Corey Brewer and young Fournier (learned then and there not to Google it, ever). Legendary win streak, the same year Heat got to 28 or something like that.

I remember me and my buddy getting up at like 3-4 in the morning here in Serbia to watch them. And one time we did not, I believe it was the Hornets who ended it.

We never would have guessed we would get to do the same thing only a couple years later with Jokić…again. lo

Edit – I almost forgot my namesake. Mr Kosta Koufos.

  9. For many Nuggets fans, no. But for 99% of the other fans that team has already been forgotten. People really only remember Melon from that era of Nuggets basketball

  10. While I had watched and rooted for the team casually for a while, that 2013 team was the catalyst for me becoming the fan I am today.

The biggest reason was likely the fact that if you went to a Nuggets game that season, your were basically guaranteed to watch them win. They played a fast, entertaining, and selfless game. Essential Nuggets basketball.

It would be another six years until I went to as many games in one season as I did in 2013.
