For what it’s worth, the Avs should’ve tried to abandon Georgie during the offseason but everyone was woo’d by the playoffs…
It’s early …. but losses are losses and excuses are excuses.
We will be ok but it sucks watching us struggle with 2 games we could have won but didnt thanks to goaltending. We’re on place to give up 21 shots a game which is OUTSTANDING… I will take that all year long. Its unreasonable to expect our defense to be perfect. Goalies need to bail us out and make saves once in a while because we;re going to have breakdowns, missed coverages, turnovers, etc
We are a cup contender, Georgie/Annunen have one of the best defensive cores in the league playing in front of them. Good teams overcome/outscore problems but its deflating after scoring to get scored on right after with a soft goal… boy that 3rd one last night was AWFUL
End rant! I have faith we’ll get it fixed, give it some time, ok with building…. progression > regression
That game was like watching the Vegas one all over again. Anytime the Avs got a goal and a swing in momentum, Columbus went down on a quick rush and put one of their own in. Georgiev doesn’t just look rusty, he looks like he has no idea why he can’t stop pucks.
I’m going to start trying to make a graphic like this for every PPGT. Last few years I’ve seen a drop off in what this thread is used for. GDT for live reactions and talking about the game in the moment. PGT for knee jerk reactions and direct after game feelings. PPGT for logical discussion about how we feel after sleeping on it. The good the bad the ugly is all posted here but I’d like to have more than “boo goalies” and “____ sucks” give us the reasons you think these things in this thread, and i will try to provide more stats as the year goes on to help people use data for why they feel this way.
If you guys know of other usefull info graphics to add or other stats you guys might want to see included/not included feel free to chat me or comment it here.
Everything else aside, it’s just plain exhausting to be having this goalie conversation again, and so early into the season at that. I had hoped the fan base rallying around Georgiev in the playoffs last year would boost his confidence / performance heading into this season, but here we are.
I honestly don’t have a solution in-mind. I don’t know what to do with the guy. But I do know that the Avs can’t afford to risk another year of this elite core’s prime on subpar goalie play.
Sell Georgiev off, give a team a couple draft picks or rookies, and get a goalie with a history of ice breaking stops. Not based on stats or analytics, just tape. What does he *look* like. What does he *feel* like. Because Georgiev had pretty decent stats with NYR. But since we acquired him, he’s drowned.
Aside from the obvious pain that is our goaltending, as I was watching the game last night I noticed that our players in general were having a really hard time controlling the puck. Bouncing off or over their sticks, whiffing on shots and passes, or just flat out poor communication when trying to breakout. It just seems like we cannot maintain possession especially in our own zone which is leading to turnovers in high danger areas and is translating to some of these goals we are giving up. The guys have to control what they can control and that’s mainly making smarter decisions with the puck in our defensive zone.

Bednar defending Georgiev after the shitty season last year and the somehow FAR worse start this year is a very disturbing sign. He IS NOT the answer. And Annunen is a WIP. Changes need to be made very soon or this season will be a disaster.
I was worried we would be a #3 team at best (in the Central) considering the Landy and Nuke situations. Now I’m even worried about making the playoffs at all.
The goaltending was and is horrific, but the entire team is flat.
Barely able to keep possession last night, so many defensive lapses leading to high % shots, no urgency on offense and just an overall lack of communication.
I know there are a lot of new players on the team and it takes time to gel but that’s also what training camp and preseason is for. One of the leaders of this team needs to figure it out and get everyone on the same page
