Even the announcers couldn’t believe this call

We’re a week into the NHL season so I hate to already be complaining about officiating but in last nights Seattle Kraken vs Minnesota Wild game, I saw not just questionable officiating but one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen in an NHL game. While the Wild got off to a hot start with a 2 goal lead, they had a brutal stroke of luck in the 2nd period. Not only did Larsson catch Eriksson Ek with a nasty elbow that saw him leave the game, not 5 seconds later the ref made a horrendous call. Tanev and Brodin went down along the boards in what was an obvious trip by Tanev but not only did he not get called, it was actually Brodin who got called for tripping! Of course, Seattle would then go on to score a controversial goal that went off the skate of Eberle in what could be seen as a kicking motion. It was just a terrible sequence for the Wild in general but I cover that and the rest of the game in todays NHL hockey video!

  1. I was forced to watch the game with Kraken's announcers, and they thought every single call against them was the worst thing ever, and visa versa. It was pretty ridiculous, honestly. I understand some homer-ism, but it was out of hand. Made the game a little less enjoyable.

  2. Even as a kraken fan, idk why we keep on being part of horrible calls, and along with that, this is a horrible call. But, we win soooooooooooooo

  3. I swear hockey players need to start wearing something around there face to is protective three face there is way to many injuries in hockey when it comes to the face it happens all the time

  4. Either allow challenges or don't. Shouldn't be such a thing as a play that cannot be challenged.
This one resulted in a Seattle goal in a game that was decided in a shootout.

  5. Not only did they get the call right, but it should have been five and a game with possible expulsion from hockey.
It looked like he deliberately tried to kick his opponent in the face with his skate.
That's the way I see it.
Connor McDavid was also kicked with a skate tonight and no call.
Get that right out of the game.

  6. It wouldn't be so bad if the refs would just review the fucking thing and say "my bad, no penalty on the play" or something, but no it's always just doubled down. These awful calls just GIFT free goals and literally skew outcomes of games. The league needs to do better than this crap.

  7. Hanlon's razor is an adage or rule of thumb that states: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

Deffinitely applicable here, and in most cases of bad officiating.

  8. Not a fan of either team really, but seriously every ref in the league needs to lose their job. It's been a complaint across the league for several years and just getting worse. Fire them all and start fresh.

  9. Only things I can think of are the ref got the teams swapped. Or that from his angle, it appeared that Brodin stuck his leg out for a knee-knee, with his own leg braced. Not saying that is what happened, but I can see how a ref may have thought that if from the right angle.

  10. A pair of beer league refs would have done a better job than these two. That is the most brutal officiating that i have seen in a long time. Everyone misses a call now and then but not like this!

  11. Im pretty sick of how hockey refs insist on trying to make their calls "even" in the end, like you know the other team will for sure get a call if your team has had 2 calls. Or how they refuse to call bascially anything at all in the last few minutes of a game. Why cant it just be called straight, like a penalty is a penalty no matter what and dont make them up to even things out
