Quasimodo predicted this :/
I’m new to hockey but it was painfully obvious how much better the Devils played today, and not just because of the score
When you play nearly a whole period in penalty kill, then spend the damn near the rest of the game in the defensive zone you won’t win. The boys were out played by a mile. That’ll happen on a road trip against a cup contender! On to the next one!
Day games don’t count.
Tough game. Never really in it. Get at least 1 point in Anaheim and the road trip was an overwhelming success.
7 penalties is rarely a recipe for success
Eyyyy, there’s the hockey I know and love. I knew things were feeling too good. Next game boys!
Too many penalties for sure. Definitely felt like we were chasing the whole game from opening whistle. Plus NJ has looked great to start the season.
Couldn’t watch because of the weekday middle of the day… but doesn’t look like I missed anything too exciting .
Is NJ that much better, or just a normal cycle of the sports world and it just wasn’t UHC’s day?
I had a feeling they were going to lose after beating the Rangers, but I still cheered for the W! Let’s keep it up though, so many more games to dominate!
I went to this game. We had nothing. So many penalties!
We have a young team. They were probably just up late playing fortnite. Still this is probably the worst day of my life so far.
They weren’t gonna win em all. On to Anaheim for some duck soup.
I really like how the broadcasters were talking about rhythms with shift changes and being down a man. I never really thought about it but it makes so much sense
The devils played that much better. The boys looked in control for maybe 2-4 minutes the entire game. The rest of the time they were trying to unsuccessfully setup offensive zone time or defending a very well run Devils offense. The shot disparity and hit disparity tell it all. They shot more, hit more, committed penalties less. You could be the best team in the league, but if you play like that anyone will beat you. Then add the fact that the Devils are in many people’s opinion a cup contender, this game was deservedly a loss and a shutout.
I thought Vejmelka played really well! Having a .90 save rate while being under siege the entire game was impressive. Also thought our pk was really good, it was just a shame we had to see that unit out there so many times. Power play on the other hand was rough, not like the past few games. Not sure if that was credited to Devils pk or our guys not playing well.. probably both.
Good news, it’s just one loss and I don’t think the boys will be shaken by it. Going 2-1 On a road trip with 2 cup contenders on the schedule is a very successful trip. Hopefully they play hard against the ducks and we get back to our 5 goal average and get Gunner back on pace for 130 goal season!
Go clubbers!!
I feel like overall New Jersey just did a fantastic job at anticipating when and where we were going to be. It felt like anytime we got a hold of the puck we turned around and somebody was right there waiting for us.
Also, and the broadcasters mentioned this as well, people are now paying a little more attention to Guenther.
Every loss is a learning opportunity.
Some days you are the clubber and other days you get clubbed on. We got clubbed on today lads
Can’t win them all. Excessive penalties keeping our offense from being able to get into a rhythm, and we have some weak links on defense. Excited to get Marino back, hopefully soon? Wonder who he will replace. Cole definitely looked his age today, especially when he came out of the box with a breakaway opportunity and shat his pants.
