Press Conference Review – October 14, 2024 Post-Game Edition

Hi guess who's back

Slafkovsky Segment:

[Pengu] "It sucks, you know. We come back and then you lose your own game by your own mistakes. So, it sucks. We have to eliminate it for the future." Slafkovsky on coming back from 3-2 and then losing the wheel on things defensively

[Pengu] "Yea. Too many mistakes. Too much risk. Like I said, they're good players. You give them chances, they'll score goal and that's what happened" Slafkovsky on if puck management cost them in the third

Guhle Segment:

[Pengu] "I'm just there to defend. I'm obviously just there to produce 5on5, but both those guys have a little more offensive flair then I do" – Guhle (I didn't hear the question so I have no idea which two players he's talking about)

[Pengu] "I didn't think our third period was terrible. I thought it was better than our first ten in our first period and our last ten minutes in the first was better… They just capitalized on the chances we gave them and our breakdowns. We will look at that." – Guhle

[Pengu] "We shouldn't have to wait for a loss like Boston to come out and play well" – Guhle

[Pengu] "I'm learning now that things you got to do off the ice: taking care of your body, proper sleep… It's not junior anymore and you got to do the proper things and be a professional to carry this game on for 82 games." – Guhle

[Pengu] "I'm not worried. For whatever reason, sometimes you start out flat. Not really sure what it is but that's definitely got to change. Like I said, the first ten minutes are probably the most important part of the game." – Guhle on the team being outshot in the first period of the last three games

Gallagher Segment:

[Pengu] "He's playing to his strengths. He's a very competitive guy. He wants to win. He's finding ways to contribute every single night. You're not always going to be showing up in the scoresheet. Even best players in the world. You got to find other ways to contribute and Andy does so many things for our team that probably goes unnoticed by a lot of people outside of our lockerroom. Inside here, he's go so much respect. We put a lot of responsibility on him and he shows up every night. He plays hard for his teammates" – Gallagher on Anderson

St-Louis Segment:

[Pengu] "He's going to learn as he goes what he can and can't get away with… We will keep having conversations about it." – MSL on the risk/reward factor of Hutson's defensive play

[Pengu] "You have to be careful on how you coach those guys [like Lane]. Is this a trend? Is this a one-off – like in terms of his risk-taking? [Hutson] plays with a lot of good intentions." – MSL

[Pengu] "Your risk-taking is going to go up when you're down in the third… If you're down two and you're not willing to take a little risk? I think it's hard to come back in a game. With the risk that you take and you don't execute? It's usually an odd man rush the other way." – MSL on giving up odd man rushes in the third

  1. Poor D coverage like usual. No one covering for Lane when he takes it up ice. Will come with time.

  2. I need someone to put a .5 speed dial on Monty. I can never get more than a word or two when he speaks.

  3. I was downvoted to hell for saying this preseason but Savard is not a good partner for Hutson.. he’s not mobile enough.

Hutson-Guhle and Savard-Xhekaj are better pairings except that leaves Matheson-Barron and you can’t have Barron out there as much as Matheson plays.

Our D has a huge hole on the right side.

  4. Sad about the loss but a great hockey game all around. Saw lots of great passing and plays from the Habs, shades of what’s to come for us. Hutson continues to impress. I can’t help but laugh when I see him play.

  5. On the bright side. Slaf scored, and Caufield banked an extra last game so he’s still goal per game haha

  6. I’m not saying Montembeault is Price, but Price had his bad games too… Not even sure I can blame Monty except maybe Eller’s second goal but even then
