I was watching this in the morning and I thought it was pretty insightful.

Here are some quick tidbits that I think are important to note but I would recommend listening to everything. If you just want Giants only, maybe skip to 16-17 minute mark because they talk about MLB playoffs in the beginning around the league.

-Said GM will have to do a lot of the heavy lifting like day to day operations and likely would handle the media.

-Said in the GM search that Billy Owens from As fits exactly what he is looking for as he wants someone with a scouting background; however, he also threw out some other names that haven't been mentioned like two people on the Rangers, Nick Hundley (although not the exact fit as a GM) and the Rangers assistant GM who is from Bay Area has a scouting background – Ross Fenstermaker, Carlos Rodriguez from Rays, and then others who interviewed last time when Farhan got hired.

-Pretty good chance that Matt Chapman's contract will be the biggest one this off-season.

-Says One of Wade or Flores likely has reached the end of Giants career, though Pavs doesn't know which one.

-If Pavs had to bet, he would bet that Blake Snell does not return, indicated there were red flags during the season especially first 3 months. Also bets that Fitzgerald will go to 2B even though he played a better SS in 2nd half.

-If Ha-seong Kim came into the off-season healthy, he would put a rubber stamp that he would be the starting SS, his shoulder surgery makes it more up in the air now.

-Says it was pretty clear Bob Melvin did not view Blake Sabol as a catcher, but is curious what Buster Posey's thoughts are.

-Says Farhan and Melvin likely both made changes to the lineup and that it wasn't 100% Farhan – based on quote where Melvin said he had to pick his battles. Also said that probably only like 3 managers in the league have full autonomy to always control that.

-Never got a good answer on why the got rid of Joey Bart and signed Tom Murphy.

  1. >Never got a good answer on why the got rid of Joey Bart and signed Tom Murphy.

Is that really a mystery? Based on their past performances, they thought Murphy could hit and Bart couldn’t. Oops.

  2. So…… not spending in the off season. Keeping the cheaper of wade and flores and snell is not coming back.

If these end up happening, not a good start Gerald.

  3. Yeah, I’m getting ready to phone it in for next season if we do nothing in the off season. Webb is in his prime; Bailey, Ramos, Fitz, Lee, and Chapman are all forming a great core, we still have a good bullpen. Either go out and spend the money to shore up this core, or trade everyone away to reset if you’d rather keep your money.

It sucks that Buster is going to have to deal with this ownership. They don’t know what they want anymore, and they’re going to drag this team, and Buster, down into the depths with them.

  4. How is there even a discussion on whether to keep Wade or Flores? The cheaper of the two? Come on. I love Flores, but come on.

  5. Thanks for the notes!

I find it really interesting that “only 3” managers in the league have full lineup autonomy. That sounds extremely low.

  6. I love Pavs but none of this seems surprising, aside from the back and forth info we’ve received on lineups

  7. I thought Posey would be the opposite. The GM is behind the scenes doing all the “heavy lifting” and Posey is the face speaking to the media and recruiting talent. I know as a player he did the minimum when it came to the media side but that’s just because he was a player and focused on the game.

And the reports of Chapman having the biggest contract this offseason and being the same team next season just without Conforto and Snell is really disappointing. We need Soto if we want to take any sort of step towards the Dodgers and Padres. Without him we’re probably closer to the Rockies

  8. I like Pavlovic but he doesn’t know everything. He also said Posey wouldn’t be the new president of baseball and here we are.
