What is the real feasibility of something like this?

  1. I’m no expert but adding a dome to the current stadium doesn’t seem feasible. More likely they will use the quote to put a roof on the current stadium to say “we might as well just build a brand new stadium at this price point”.

  2. While I’m not a fan of having a dome in the AFCN, the thought of hosting a Super Bowl is for sure an interesting one.

  3. It’s a bargaining chip to make the hundreds of millions we’ll end up paying more palatable.

“We paid 500M but it would’ve been 550M if we added the dome! We’re such good negotiators!”

  4. Is a dome possible? Probably, since almost anything can be done with the right engineering and architectural planning.

What would be the benefit though?

The practical benefits are comfort, weather control during games, and something some free agents consider, but a Super Bowl isn’t one of them. The amount of money we’d have to shell out to make this stadium into one the NFL would be willing to host their big event at would be astronomical and would either require the owners to secure private funding, which they have almost no resources to do so with, or have the county foot the bill, which would ba a hard sell.

It’s far more likely that this significant a change will end up similarly to Soldier Field in that a ton of money is put into a project that makes absolutely nobody happy. Myself including, as I love to freeze my ass off.

  5. Domes are awful. Football is meant to be played in the elements. I root against every team with a dome on principle alone.

  6. No more public funding of stadiums. I would rather the Bengals move than $1 of tax payer money go to fund the Brown family.

  7. Football is meant to played outside, in the elements. Why continue to sterilize the game with this dome nonsense.

  8. Domes allow the venue to be used for activities where weather needs to be contained. There was a Superbowl in Detroit, some years ago, because they had a dome. The place sits unused, except for the enclosed spots inside, from January to May because of elements.
