As much as I support him for the long term, he has been hurting the team in the playoffs. We do not have the luxury of having him work it out. He is lost at the plate. At the moment he can’t catch up a mid 90s fastball.
He has been decent behind the plate except for his bad decision in trying to get a lead runner last night when he had no chance. The alternative is not great but Torrens does add experience and even through Alvy has done reasonably well in throwing guys out in the past season, Torrens might be more of a threat defensively.
It does not even matter at this point because Mendy has already said he is playing.
Quintana’s era with any other pitcher is more than double that of with Alvy. It sucks seeing him struggle in prime time but we cant just abandon the guy. He has not been a liability defensively. It’s also the first playoffs he’s ever been in the pros after an injury ridden season. Regardless what happens rest of the playoffs this is a critical experience for his growth
Ngl this guy pretty f bad at bat. Just bunt every time honestly.
He’s so lost at the plate right now I’d like him to surprise bunt if there are runners on base. At least he’s got a chance of contributing that way.
He was injured this season. I’m sure he will be okay. Look at Ben Simmons. He’s back to his old self after surgery. Alvy just needs to do the simple things right now and not do too much.
He need to do like Pete did a couple weeks ago. Come up big when we need him most and break through. His blunders cost us the game. Maybe if he got the hit and made the right play at first game could have went differently. But I hope he breaks through.
I believe in his potential, although I doubt we’ll ever see his projected ceiling. The problem is outside of framing, potential is all he is right now and the NLCS is not the time to work out the lumps. Unfortunately, our manager seems to think the playoffs are when you just allow guys to figure it out like with Senga, JD, and Alvarez.
There’s a good player in Alvarez but he’s a huge detriment to the team right now and needs to go to the bench before he loses any more games by himself.
He’s looking a pitches like Beltran looks a curveballs. He can snap out of this.
I believe in all my guys. Except maybe bader at the dish and JD lmao
Standing ovation for the kid. He’s been beat up all year and needs to know we have his back.
Booing is going to have a huge negative on him, you can tell he feeds off energy
He HAS TO shorten his swing. and other than calling a good game, he is a defensive liability. He has time to grow and is young, but honestly I just don’t know at this point, and his at bats in the post season have been rally killing torture.
I don’t believe he should bat the rest of this series lol. I believe the days of him crushing home runs eve try other at bat are gone for now.
I believe in him for next year. Right now he’s lost
Love alvy, but he needs to sit today to get his head back in the zone
You gotta believe
I’m going to get a lot of hate for this, but I still see him reaching his projected ceiling and be another Pudge Rodriguez. He handles the pitching staff well. He gets beaten up behind the plate and keeps going. Has a lot of heart. That’s the intangible, unmeasurable tool that he has.
Alvy & Starling … Let’s fuckin Go Boys!!!
I think he needs to sit. He’s not helping the team and this is not the time to “work” through this horrendous slump. Just leaving to many on base.
Knew we were toast yesterday when Alvarez through his bat further than most of the balls he puts in play this series
We need to give our boy a lot of love when he comes to bat tonight.
I believe in this team!
This the post we needed. Saw a lot of hate for OUR boy. He’s a kid who’s stepped up multiple times not just this postseason, in regular season games too. He just needs a little more plate discipline
Dude is great enough as a receiver and pitch framer that you can’t send him down to fix his clearly broken swing and approach at the plate
Is it a refusal on his part to change his swing? He just has a huge hole there and can’t catch up to fastballs very well
When Pete was ice cold and we needed him most, he delivered. I think Alvarez is extremely capable of doing the same. Just needs to be more patient and wait for the right pitch.
Despite it all, I still believe
Bader should be In the lineup today, he hits good against Yamamoto
Show me one good swing he has taken against the Dodgers. He looks completely lost at the plate.
Stop swinging so hard!
Fernando Martinez part 2
He needs better coaching…trying to hit a 5-run homer every time up….;-|
I think he loses calls from umps because of his need to frame EVERY pitch with 5 inches of the zone.
Huge fan of his energy, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. I think he’ll really benefit from the offseason and I’ve only heard great things about his work ethic. He’s 22(!) still and the future is bright even if he doesn’t turn it around at the plate in their remaining games.
He need to b benched he’s an automatic out right now we need to see if Torrens can do something cuz right now like I said he’s an automatic out and this is the NLCS not the regular season kid still young but right now it’s time for a change just my opinion
Alvarez has to focus on just making good contact instead of trying to be the hero. A few times yesterday the Mets wanted to go for the haymaker instead of sticking to their plan of seeing pitches and making contact. The heroics are great but that would’ve been a much different game had one of those bases loaded opportunities had fallen.
Ovaries reminds me of Pete struggling when you have to remember you guys are strong enough to pump anything out on good contact, stop trying to go for the home run and try to get on base
Edit: that said, I believe in them and I hope to see a turn around tonight LGM!
Cheer this man when he comes to bat Im a big fan and believe in this kid let’s show some support
