Joe Burrow Runs for TD and Bengals’ Defense Carries them Past Giants, What’s Next for Cincy?

I have to start this morning with the Bengals…they got the win they needed last night in primetime…taking care of the Giants to move to 2-4. And would you look at this…

With the way the rest of the AFC has played out so far…that win puts Cincy just one game back of a playoff as we wrap up the first third of the 2024 season. They are right back in it, just like that. Obviously there’s still a lot of work to be done, but they are still very much alive thanks to last night.

And it was huge to see this defensive line finally looking healthy…and the impact that it had across the board.

They held the Giants run game in check, they made Daniel Jones uncomfortable all night, and they held an opponent to single digits for the first time in 76 games. And while I know the Giants might not have the most explosive offense – especially without Nabers – we did just see them move the ball all over Seattle’s defense a week ago, so let’s not try to take anything away from what Coach Lou’s squad was able to do last night.

And while the Bengals offense didn’t have its best night – and struggled to deal with that Giants d-line – there were some big developments there too. Exactly one week ago, I was sitting here ticked off because of the conservative approach the Bengals took in OT…running it 3-straight times to set up a field goal instead of putting the ball in Joe’s hands. Well, last night, they made up for it.

3rd & 12…just over 2 minutes to go…and instead of running it, they attacked with Burrow hitting Yoshi for a 29 yard gain to ice it and eventually set up that Chase Brown TD run. This is the Zac Taylor I want to see, this is the Joe Burrow I want to see…stay on the attack, screw getting conservative – go win the damn game.

They got that one…now it’s time to string a few together, starting with those struggling Browns next Sunday.
