  1. Jim Foxx must be a Freudian slip. Hall of Famer and my grandfather’s favorite Red Sox growing up. My ears were Freudian too – I’m glad you had the man’s name on the screen because I thought you said Taylor Swift.

Hey, I’m more into the results on the field – but if they can bring in a guy who can figure out trends and problems before they happen, bring him on. Nerds have their place.

  2. Do the dodgers have a 5 headed dragon or the yankees? Just because someone studies state and is nerdy doesnt mean they will succeed and help the team win. This is a start but have to spend $ sign players be aggressive to compete. Lets see how the offseason goes

  3. I don't know who this guy is but I'm ok with his hiring and now I can't wait for the world series to be over so we can officially get the hot stove going! Odd rumors are interesting but actually are going to be much better

  4. Sox have been building an infrastructure since Bloom took over. Def boosted their player dev and analytics department, just could never figure out the pitching and fielding side of things. With breslow in the fold he was able to hire away Kyle Boddy Justin Willard and Andrew Bailey who ushered in a new era in pitching development both in the pitch shape and the way they attack hitters. Getting ahead of the curve on this “improving a strength or mitigating a weakness” side of analytics should smooth out some of the peaks and valleys this young team has shown in the last few second half of the seasons. I’m all for it. Hire all of the nerds!

  5. Devers has been out of shape! Getting paid means more responsibility… 2025 will be the year Devers leads the Team!? Technology changed the way the game has been played for years… Have a whole building full of people to use it…! Scouting, Analytics to what players do on the road on down time…Everything!

  6. At first glance I like this move, I am really hoping this will not be a hey here is a reason not to get some of those high priced players, because the stats say so and one thing in sports is that stats don't always tell you everything. They other big thing they will want to do besides identifying these players on their trends and who can be fixed or will do well here, is hire some more coaches who can improve the players during the season. Bailey did awesome teaching the starters on how to change their approach and they were lights out for the first two months then the rest of the league caught up and things started to regress. Also look at defense, they have been awful the last few years and got worse last year by leading the league, they have to teach these guys the fundementals of how to field. Hitting was in same boat, not on scoring runs but on making contact. They got worse and worse as the season went on and started striking out more and more especially with men on. The coaches they need have to be able to grab a person and sit them down and tell them and then teach them during the season how to fix things. So this hire will be good getting players who can fit in, but they need to also maybe identify coaches who can actually coach at their position. Bailey is the least worrisome of the entire group and I think he will be even better now knowing trends of his own players. Great job on reporting this move, I hadn't even heard they made this move. Keep it up Professor.

  7. It's simple: same as with players, drafting and development, if other teams are doing it you sure as hell need to be doing it. And getting an EDGE in an area like this is something you can do for a few million $. Anyone hyperventilating about "Tampa North" (I put a pox on your house, Dan Shaughnessy) needs to chill out.

The Sox are getting Jimmy Foxx back? Yesssssssss!

  8. People, chill out on the "nerds," stuff. EVERY team in baseball is super nerdy, and has been for over a decade. It's not even a thing anymore–it's baseball, through and through. The 90s called–they want their know-nothing fans back.

  9. Can this new guy get Henry to spend more money? If the Yankees win the World Series, then there will be more pressure on Henry. Historically, the RS have reacted to Yankees success or big moves with a corresponding move. New video idea Tyler ONiel qualifying offer

  10. Outside consulting. Now even more middle managers. Pretty soon more of them than players. Starting to feel like a comedy routine.

Question: How many middle managers does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

Answer: Let's call a meeting to discuss, assign a committee to analyze…..then from the back of the room…..did anyone notice that it's dark in here?

  11. This is the Sox approach. Build a team like the Rays to avoid spending 💰🪙. This has been the plan for a very long time. Analytics is ruining MLB. We just saw the Guardians cost themselves a series by benching their All-Star David Fry and other power hitters in favor of loading their Lineup with subpar Lefties.

  12. The old saying is “ show me the money “ is this case it’s players ! I’m not holding my breath. Being that the Yankees are in the World Series , I hope it gives John Henry heartburn or 🤮

  13. The Red Sox once again poaching from the Rays is definitely tipping their hand a bit. Nothing wrong with being efficient however they clearly like the way Tampa does things and are looking to be more like tampa and less like the dodgers or the Yankees. Ugg😢

  14. Idk. They've been a bad team/organization for 5 years now. Hiring a consultant doesn't say much to me. I doubt this will make players want to play in Boston on a smaller contract like they've been offering. Put up or shut. Meanwhile we're watching Mookie against the player that we traded him for now on the Yankees in the world series.

  15. Hey Corbin, Do we really need a GM??? Any deals or trades mus be approved by Breslow… He is the one that will actually make a deal or sign a player. So in my humble opinion any GM would be just a figure head… Not like the old days and what a GM could do…

  16. This is the time of year where the fans are just gonna whine about anything happening because it’s not directly adding talent to the team, but hey, believe it or not, there’s not really anything they can do rn anyway, so whining about this is pointless. Why not bring in another voice to reason with the higher ups? This can only be a positive thing

  17. Hand on heart, I think we all initially thought you said Taylor Swift.
All that being said, this seems promising, good analytic awareness. The main question for me is how Mr Smith will handle negotiating with players and other teams. That's where Bloom was faulted, it remains to be seen how well Smith can do since that's not his main area of expertise.

  18. I like they are a little proactive now during the World Series so they’re ready to hire new coaches and begin evaluating the free agent market and trades. I’m optimistic, I just hope they’re not reducing their scouting department. Thanks Corbin.
