Amen Thompson was one of the NBA’s most electrifying rookies last season, and he was doing it without a jumper. Can he become a cornerstone for the Houston Rockets without even needing one?

WHY DO I USE PER 75 STATS?
Some people use per 36 minute stats, some people use per 75, some people use per 100. I prefer per 75, because they’re usually similar enough to per 36 while also taking the possession factor into account. No player will play 100 possessions in a game (most likely), and 75 possessions is usually on-par with what you’d expect from a starter. I just think per 75 numbers are the most rational “hypothetical” statistics. They’re not the be-all-end-all, don’t get too hung up on them.

  1. Have we not learned from ben simmons? People asked the same questions and the answer is in todays nba is still no you cant be a star without a jumpshot. Its a key factor and you need to be insanely dominant in the paint like 20ppg in the paint unstoppable or just get a jumpshot. Hes gonna be just like ben if he doesnt get one no matter how good he is teams will just abuse his main weakness like they tried to do with giannis and did with ben why do we always do this? Even scottie barnes got a jumpshot to avoid the same issues as ben simmons in his SECOND YEAR they tried sagging into the paint.

  2. I'm reading the Ben Simmons comp but Ben Simmons wasn't a willing cutter/slasher. He could've been an unstoppable slasher if he was an active and willing slasher. I think he compares to Draymond skillset-wise.

  3. i love these videos man.. very thought provoking nba content that offers deeper ideas and suggestions on unsung, underrated and overlooked aspects of player's games/styles

  4. I think he can still be really good. But, not a closer. Giannis, Simmons, are some recent examples. Even Lebron didn’t have a reliable jumper until halfway through his career.

  5. Yes, speaking generally. But the Rockets need shooters. Except for Fred, our team is full of average and below average shooters. The Rockets have to get shooting from the 2 and 3. If Jalen doesnt figure it out and Amen has no outside shot, the Rockets wont move to the next level.
