The Day After: Edmonton Oilers 4, Pittsburgh Penguins 0 Discussion

Winger Viktor Arvidsson recorded his first three points as an Oiler, tallying three assists, while goaltender Stuart Skinner was perfect on Friday night after making all 27 saves for his fifth career shutout in a 4-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Hall of Fame Night at Rogers Place.

Vasily Podkolzin also tallied his first point with the Blue & Orange, garnering a secondary helper on Evan Bouchard’s second-period marker that made it 2-0 for the Oilers, and Zach Hyman notched his 400th career point with an assist on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ first goal of the season that arrived just 16 seconds into the final frame. #oilers #edmontonoilers #nhl

  1. Great game by the Oilers! Was fun to watch – slowly, slowly the second line starts to click… also Podz looked good with Drai and Arvidsson. If Skinner can keep up the goaltending he was showing in the last two games, that'd be another big step forward. LFG OILERS – 2025 is our year!

  2. I saw your thumbnail and had to comment.
    I wouldn't say we're back yet.
We faced pittsburgh who the oilers are their kryptonite.
I think the first real test will be against Calgary on November 3rd to see how the team really has came along as a temperature check. While the teams movement is much better they also need a team that's higher on the standings than the oilers to really prove their skill.

  3. Was great to see skinner with two very good games back to back. If he’s can play to this level most of the season then this team will win more than their fair share of games.

  4. Arvidsson was very involved all night, which was awesome to see. The line's chemistry is improving every game and is evident last night. I'm hoping he stays healthy, as he gets injured almost every season. But I'd like to see how this team fair against teams, which are above .500.

  5. I can tell you, the success that Arvidsson had last night is going to have an indelible effect on Skinner and Podkolzyn. Both of them want to join in that success and I sincerely think the Oilers TEAM has turned the corner

  6. Very lucky with the onside call, I think you were right that it might not have made a difference between a win/loss but I think it did make the difference between a real game and a trouncing. I think it really was a technical issue because they were missing the exact frame on the angle they needed for things to be conclusive, I would have thought that their cameras had more fps but I thought they were making a pretty good case on sportsnet showing the angle that showed the ankle in the plane of the blue line – one frame the puck and the heel are in the plane, the next frame both are across, and the other angles weren't necessarily conclusive in terms of the heel in the plane. Understanding basic practical physics, we could all tell it was offside, but the video equipment didnt capture it.
