Post-Game Reaction: Edmonton Oilers 1, Columbus Blue Jackets 6

Connor McDavid was injured on his first shift of the game as the Edmonton Oilers get blown out by the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight by a score of 6-1. There are zero positives to take away from this game. Here is tonight’s post-game fan reaction. #oilers #edmontonoilers #nhl

  1. PP unit was useless, Skinner was yet again useless, his Top-Bottom-Bottom type of performance proves what I firmly believe, we will never get a single cup with Skinner as our main goalie, not 20K Oilers supporters contradicting me can change that. Same is valid for Knoblauch, I bet anything he is not an Oiler Trainer come christmas. As soon as we get scored one, Knoblauch has no idea on how to manage crisis situations or turn around or intervene and change anything. When there is no connection between the team and the trainer, the trainer needs to go, it doesn't matter how many trainers we changed in las X years, it doesn't matteer if Knoblauch has any good skills, he is NOT REACHING the team, he cannot motivate the team, he cannot extract the best ouf of each player, so he needs to go!

  2. Ok major question here: philly gets either our 1st rounder this year OR next year (2026). So if we do miss the playoffs could we trade our 1st this year for a 1st in 2027 to avoid giving Philly a good pick? If we had say pick 12, could we trade it to Chicago for their 2027 1st? Then philly gets our 1st next year

  3. Iโ€™m never defending skinner ever again. Bush league first period especially that third goal, if it was tipped an AHL goalie is good enough to see it being tipped 20 feet away.

  4. yeah, your speach about the Oilers not showing heart, not give it all, is a TRAINER skill, a TRAINER managing the situation, demanding exactly what you mention. Don't agree with 'it's all on players', yes it is on players, but trainer needs to REACH the team and DEMAND those things. He is acting as some executive with 20 managers under him and he does not need to get his hands dirty, doing the hard talks to the players. That is not NHL level of 'trainer'.

  5. Skinner just is not consistent enough yet. It takes way longer for a goalie to hit their peak than a skater. Goalie prime is closer to 30. I do not think this team can win a cup with Skinner as the #1 within the next 3 years. He just needs more time to develop.

  6. it's time to get rid of dustin schwartz enough is enough, the goalie coach sucks and all his defenders need to stop defending him, every goalie that leaves us ends up playing better after leaving schwartz yet we fired the assistant and head coaches while he keeps his job

  7. Skinner isn't consistent enough to be a top goalie for a cup contender. Skinner has moments of a top-tier goalie, then he plays like this… It feels like they traded away some much needed depth.

  8. definitely a bad loss but being 10 games in is still a somewhat positive sign that itโ€™s not the end of the world but yeah there are some obvious signs that need to be addressed moving forward.

  9. Everyone needs to stop defending Skinner, 3 goals on 6 shots. Letting a goal from the blueline. Please, Skinner needs to put be sent down where Campbell went to teach him something . And no its not just him but hes garbage. Hes not a starting goalie.

  10. Oh my God why do we keep on going through this argument every time Austin like we should be in Super Concern Now that Connor is out of the Lineup. The Holes Keep on happening & the Team Just Finds ways to suffer more Fans in Oil Country

  11. I remain cautiously optimistic. They're the oldest team in the league but generally speaking they aren't "ancient" per se. They've had SOME good looks throughout the season so far and have shown some progress towards fixing some key issues.

The fact is that sports are psychological, and losing your captain so suddenly like that can either enrage you or deflate you. Today the Oilers got deflated.

I think that this is a hugely underrated problem with the Oilers that I haven't seen talked about. They have a tendency to give up hope instead of locking in, and I think that their win streak whenever a fight goes down is a testament to that. Could be a worthy video topic.

For these reasons I remain cautiously optimistic – if the Oilers fail I don't think it'll be based on their skill (they're all good players), but based on their state of mind. If they want to win they can't let things get under their skin so easily. If they can conquer their doomerism they'll be the cup contenders they deserve to be, if not then I'd say they'll be out in 1-2 playoff rounds.

  12. Low team morale was apparent after the injury, also compounded by second half of back to back game. I was actually expecting and hoping the top 3 forwards would step up.

  13. Oof. The Oilers have seem to caught "The Habs Plague" Just poor defense. Poor Discipline. And then injuries. Jeez. If it's a long term injury to McDavid. There are very very genuine concerns about the Oilers and their playoffs. I hope it's a short term 1-2 Week injury.

  14. Zero effort game. The looping fly bys, the useless shots from outside the circles. The lack of desire to get to rebounds. The lack of sticks in lanes on the pk. The lack of structure, the missed passes, The terrible goal tending. The lack of fight or even a gentle nudge, soft as fudge, the loss of dozens of puck battles. The putrid pp. and the cherry on top. They lose the best player in the world on the 1st shift. Pathetic. Apart from McDavidโ€™s injury they got everything they deserved tonight!

Now letโ€™s talk about what management did to this team this off-season โ€ฆ well like I said they are reaping what theyโ€™ve sewn.

    At least try next game!

  15. Few thoughts. Like many, I think the goal coach needs to go. And like many, I have been saying this for years.

The general team composure and attitude that we see in terms of performance is very erratic. I know professional sports are hard to judge due to the elite level of the league players and general competitiveness. But, this does not look at all like the team from last winter. Is it chemistry, relative loss in player quality, or is perhalps something else going on behind the scenes…

  16. Goaltending was tremendous. I really root for Stu but his performance last night was just unbearable. The fact that the team gives away the first period is beyond me every single match. A team that wants to get back to the Stanley finals has to get on the ice with a hunger where you try to smother your opponent from the first period. We will get back on track against the Predators.

P.s. Perry must get a little bulked up and pick a fight every game so we'll surely make the playoffs ๐Ÿ˜…
    Let's go Oilers ๐Ÿ›ข๏ธ๐Ÿงก

  17. At the slow start, I was willing to give the players some benefit of the doubt that it was just a bit of party hangover, but you're right we have to expect more resiliency from the team as the game goes on. Especially with their captian out. Disappointing game but I was thankful it wasn't a shut out

  18. horrid team defense by all positions. Forwards do not back check and the D stand around puck watching, Oilers had a very strong defense during the playoffs last year, this year they can't be bothered and it is extremely frustrating.
