What Cincinnati Reds Spending May Look Like this Offseason
The Cincinnati Reds face a challenging offseason with limited spending, as reports suggest their payroll will remain under $100 million due to uncertainties around TV rights revenue and decreased attendance. They discuss potential improvements under Terry Francona’s management and the excitement surrounding a possible postseason run. The episode also teases insights into the Reds’ bullpen, hinting at an in-house solution for next season. With the ongoing Yankees-Dodgers World Series as a backdrop, the hosts express their desire to see the Reds in the playoffs. This is the reason MLB needs a salary floor for teams to spend money….or the MLB teams need to be very transparent on their expenses. Frustrating that it appears the Reds will not take advantage of ELDC and Hunter Greene prime years like they did with Votto. Decline Nick Martinez and sign Corbin Burns which would be a net $20ish M in payroll.
Right I like our guys..we can win with these guys
Looking back, its disappointing that the Reds didn't take more advantage of the 91-98 window and the 2010-2017 window.
I remember the 95 playoffs against the Dodgers. I was there. Hideo Nomo pitched
'Old Timers" in the Big Red era, who you calling old Steve?
Wonder what Michael Lorenzen's price could be? A steady veteran presence and a possible DH during off days. I know he's not been a major league bat for some time but could he do any worse?
Espinal stays McClain nis our CF TJ RF Steer LF
Reds owners know how low the attendance can be for them to make the money they want. One reason why they prefer to not pay players in order to really win.
I was a 7 year old kid at riverfront watching big red machine and the greatest world series and 23 for 1990 series the only time we really had chance I feel was when we lost to giants when dusty was managed we just ran into a hot giants team that swept us
This is where that horrible deal for Candy is so bad.
As a Cubs fan, I hated when Gordon was our beat writer. He's always very negative. Glad we got rid of him. I'm guessing Jed Hoyer had something to do with that happening.
You can't expect the fans to fill the stadium and to have a solid to deal when you won't even commit to paying a league average payroll. #SellTheTeam
they need 150 million in salary to keep up with the rest of the league. let's be real. the way MLB is set up right now leaves no chance for small markets
Better hope all the returning players overachieve massively next season.
Phil is probably running the team, so, don't expect the Reds to do anything bold. After all TV money is lost and "where ya gona go?".
One good this is that we're finally out from under the Griffey contract .
Looking at MLB TradeRumors. Seems like anyone on the cards making any money is on the trade block. I think there’s some sort of deal to be made there.
Jeff and Steve; I love your show, but this is actually the first time I’m in absolute disagreement with what you believe is the plan forward.
You were proposing that we give up two amazing pitchers in Martinez and Junis (a steal from Milwaukee) for a power hitter. So many teams have attempted to get to the postseason by putting all their money and cards into a power hitter. Look at Judge who hit 59 Home runs in the regular season but didn’t appear in the World Series until game five. Hitters can slump but pictures generally will only have a bad day. Key pitching is paramount and really good pitchers are way harder to find. They’ll have to spend more money to replace them. They just got one of the best hitting coaches in MLB, it’s easier to develop Elly and McClain Into power hitters than it is to find a really good pitcher.
