The Canucks this regular season have a 4–2–1–1 win-regulation loss-OT loss-shootout loss record. Whilst such a record may not look that bad, the way they played on Wednesday Pacific Daylight Time no doubt did. Petey was once again a ghost but by no means was he the only reason they lost that game.
Theories are out there over just what’s wrong with Petey but he is a professional athlete. I certainly don’t see, unlike Raptors’ shooting guard Scottie Barnes or Leafs’ centre Auston Matthews, Petey on TV commercials although all three were no doubt picked in the top-10 of their respective draft years within the relevant North-American high-level sports leagues. The Petey situation has turned so ugly that just how that situation ends is anyone’s guess.
Among Canadian NHL teams I did not this season expect the Flames or Habs to come anywhere near a playoff spot, and certainly over the past few games neither team has looked particularly good. That said, at a minimum I had seen big pressure for the Canucks, Oilers, Jets, Leafs and Sens to see playoff action with, among backup goalies on such teams, Cal Pickard (Oilers), Eric Comrie (Jets) and Anton Forsberg (Sens) having already won multiple regular-season games. Šilovs has yet to do so even after 3 games, and as much as those games have all shown his unplayability due to multiple ugly goals he has allowed in each and losses of each of those games, pretty much anything goes on whether he will be sent down to the Abbotsford Canucks. Whether or not he is, that game against the Devils was ugly on goals allowed, and that also goes back to the lack of defensive responsibility.
