Jorge Soler was traded to the Los Angeles Angels today for Griffin Canning. This trade makes no sense for the Angels, here is why!

  1. Don’t think the Angels deserve the amount of criticism you’re dishing out in this video. We cannot depend on Trout to stay healthy, people said we shouldn’t sign JD Martinez for the same reasons your stating last year and look what happened. Trout and Soler will share the DH spot and there will be plenty of AB’s to go around. Trouts numbers historically as a DH hitter are down compared to when he plays the field and he has said himself he does not prefer it as he likes to be more involved in the game. There is a lot more to it then what your commenting on, and 13M/year for a good DH bat is pretty standard in todays game. Overall I think you went a little overboard on the Angels (easy target but deserved). Love the content though, keep it up!!!

  2. i think that the trade really just reads bad. we aren't a team that should've TRYING to be competitive. we're still pissed about not cashing in on guys like rengifo and tyler anderson value at the sparse deadline. we need to rebuild around ohoppe and neto and it just feels like arte is throwing away a decent start to a rebuild.

  3. The trade is really food for the Angels. Trout was never going to be full time DH and Rendon is basically off the team. Minasian already said Rendon needs to earn the 3B position and there are already reports suggesting that The Angels are over Rendon. With that being said the Angels still needed a DH/OF, and Soler provides that.

The Angels also didn't have room for Canning in the rotation and we have a lot of depth, something the casual fan doesn't know.

The Angels also have Kochaniwicz and Soriano who are locks for the rotation next year and they get outs on ground balls at an alarming right. You can have a defensive liability in the OF when those 2 are starting games. On top of that Washington and crew turned Adell, who was the worst defender, into a gold glove candidate this season. They can definitely improve Solers defense if they need to.

Soler was basically a free agent that signed for 2 yrs/ $26M with us.

Overall good deal for the Angels.

  4. The Angels could get Soto and Marc would find a way to shit on it 💀💀

Stop trying to go with the trend and learn about the needs the team actually needs

  6. If you watched Canning pitch over the last six years like Angels fan, you would understand why we’re done with him. Picking up Soler is just Arte trying to compete since we can’t get the top ten pick next year anyways if we get it this year.

  7. as an angels fan i feel great about soler and also that canning gets another shot with a different team that can improve his plus changeup and slider. If arte keeps spending like this I'm optimistic, if this is our biggest move, Arte and Perry both gotta go

  8. I’m fine with it. I think you’re way overvaluing what Canning is. He’s been horrendous. I also think you’re undervaluing what Soler could do for this team. Keep in mind our DHs last year (Calhoun, Sano, Pillar). Cannot count on Trout being in the lineup and historically he hasn’t been as good at the dish when he’s in at DH vs. when he’s in the field. Plus, Trout’s not going to be happy accepting the DH role. I think that would prompt him to ask for a trade. I’m fine with the move. I don’t think it’s as bad a deal for the Angels as you do. This feels like you’re giving the better franchise the benefit of the doubt. It’s easy to criticize the Angels. To say they’ve made no good moves is ridiculous. Case in point. I think both trades of Luis Garcia and Carlos Estevez were pretty solid moves and I think you’d be hard-pressed to refute that.

  9. I think what Marc is saying that even if Soler is a great player, he doesn't move the needle enough for how much budget space he's going to be occupying. This trade doesn't even make the angels a 70 win team, much less an 80+ win team that might slide into a wildcard spot. The Angels need to fully rebuild and tear everything down, and this move is the opposite of that. Essentially, being bad in the MLB is actually better than being mid because you will get higher draft picks most likely and you will be spending less money on payroll that is unneeded. That extra payroll money can go into player developement, scouting, ect.

  10. The full time DH is a little bit of a head scratcher but trout still has almost a whole decade left. They’re not going to make him a full time DH the rest of his career. Angels got better with this trade at the moment. Who knows if he rapidly declines. Canning isn’t taking us anywhere so aside from the money its not as bad as you’re making it to be. Will it be bad in the end? probably but it’s only 26 million over 2 years. We have rendon making 38 million and hasn’t homered in over a year. We’re fucked regardless.

  11. Trout only played 29 games last year & 82 the year before that. This is insurance in case he misses time again. Canning had 5 yrs to prove himself but hasn’t. This is only the first day of the offseason. How is this a bad deal?

  12. $13 million a year for an impact bat isn't too bad. 2024 was a year the Angels didn't try to contend. They played all their young guys to see what they have and where they need to improve. Look for them to be very active this offseason since they have lots of needs to address. They weren't able to fix Canning so I like that they're moving on from him.

  13. You wanted to know how us Angels fans feel. I HATE IT! I'm a die hard fan so still gonna try and have hope but my goodness I'm tired of this shit! Arte's terrible and Perry has not been any better. This move is baffling. Canning isn't good but yeah Soler isn't worth it so idk what we're doing.

  14. The Braves definitely have some great eye for pitching. I liked Reynaldo Lopez with the Angels and I was surprised when they DFA’d him because he was pretty good, and the Braves knew that too from the looks of it. Griffin Canning has the stuff, he’s just inconsistent. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has an under 4 ERA next season while pitching 150+ innings.

  15. I looked it up it ain’t really a bad move. Like they have 4 starters locked in already Reid Detmers, Soriano, Anderson, and Sandoval. They need to fill some of those starting pitching roles maybe they will try to sign someone this upcoming season. Soler is not that terrible to balanced out their lineup they have too many contact guys on their roster. The Angles is not that terrible as you guys pretend it to be trust me they are decent.

  16. My only hope here for the sake of Angels fans is that this is literally the first official day of the offseason and theres atill like 5 months to make more moves. MAYBE this is just the start of same bigger picture plan the Angels have to turn things around in this offseason
