Maton is horrible constantly throw standing like a Statue of Liberty this is big league throwing 89 90 it’s crazy
Build a hitting lab…😮
Severino hasn’t pitched anywhere near these innings since 2019. I think sevi might take that QA. I think the Mets probably could get a better starter & a more consistent innings eater as Mets couldn’t get length from their starters until the very end of the season. I don’t like taking that risk when there’s a lot more options out there.
I think Mets fans should not be looking at Alonso as a first baseman & freeman being the ceiling. The Mets have to look at Pete as a run producer. Until this season he hit over 35 hrs & 90 run production in 162 game seasons. Nobody has hit more home runs & RBIs except for Aaron Judge since the polar bear rookie season. Also, the Mets can’t just place mark vientos at first base. Pete was great at scooping the ball & vientos has a canon & you take his best asset as a 3rd baseman away from him who has had some struggles defensively. I look at Pete as a run producer & on a bad year to hit 34 HR, 88 RBIs. That’s better than 80% of the league even if the metrics say otherwise. 6/230 is a very realistic estimate especially if you look at the market for hitters, not 1st baseman, imho.
I really feel like the biggest issue was managing a pitching staff. I wanted the Mets to bring in someone who had some experience with unorthodox pitching & could be creative including openers, bullpen days, 6 man rotation (especially with Senga pitching). A coach to help Mendoza stop being reactive & start being much more proactive. He is seeing that starter is gassed, but let’s him walk the 1st batter & gives up a a single & then brings in another pitcher. Overusing relievers in a short period of time. Making sure you have pitchers warming up that you may need a batter or 2 later or making sure you have that long reliever when they can’t get past the 2nd inning. You obviously need the talent to do so. The front office is very high on heffner who seems to be the common denominator that this has happened for about the last decade. This year especially the pitching staff was managed so poorly & I would have this critique even if they won the World Series that’s how bad it was handled, imho.

No one in free agency adds more wins to Stearns’ little algorithm sheet than Juan Soto. Soto just smooths out all of the statistics and makes it very easy to get to all the magic numbers.
