The Bruins might actually be THIS bad | Poke the Bear

On this episode of Poke the Bear, Conor Ryan and Evan Marinofsky react to the Bruins’ loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. After appearing to be back on track after back-to-back shutout wins, the Bruins return to the same form and look lifeless in Toronto. Is this just who this team is? At some point ‘early-season struggles’ just become ‘struggles’ and the Bruins may be reaching that threshold already. Plus, some rumors about a fan-favorite leaving Boston. All that, and much more!

  1. 3:16 I think Conor can — and should — do better than this take.
In the earliest games this season, the Bruins were getting (badly) beaten in BOTH puck possession time AND high-danger scoring opportunities.
On Tuesday versus Toronto, the Bruins were the better team in possession metrics at even strength, but the Bruins still didn’t generate many high-danger scoring opportunities.
Those two scenarios are not the same thing! Neither scenario is great, but doing really well in ONE of those two key metrics is substantially better than doing well in ZERO of the same two metrics.

  2. Swayman already has some of the worst numbers in the league for a starting goalie. I hate that contract. And you Swayman load swallowers out there please dont reply….I do not give a shit about opinions. The guy is a mediocre goalie who bamboozled the B's outta 8 mil.

  3. Lack of talent and that's on Sweeney. They over achieved last year. Both Coyle and Freddy had career seasons last year and won't be repeated. The team is overloaded with 3rd and 4th line talent. Their off season signings were not good. E. Lindholm is way over paid. Yes he scored 42 one year, hasn't come close before or since. Zadorov is as advertised, a big, slow defenseman who get's you in penalty trouble. They didn't need him, they already had a solid defense. Over 12 million spent on those two.

This is more a Julien type team than a Montgomery type team. Not fast but hard hitting and could be hard to play against. I hope they can right the ship before it's too late but I will stick to my prediction that they will be fighting for that last playoff spot.

Sweeney needs to go. I just heard that DeBrusk sold his home before the season ended last year. If it's true then Sweeney knew DeBrusk wasn't coming back and let him walk for nothing! He could have traded him at the deadline for something, anything, even 3rd round draft picks. He got nothing. That is gross incompetence.
