NBA Questions: Celtics & Thunder COLLISION COURSE? Lakers & Warriors Finals threats? | Hoops Tonight

Jason Timpf is joined by the Nerd Sesh guys to answer five big questions through the first few games of the NBA season. The guys discuss if Jayson Tatum’s Boston Celtics and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s Oklahoma City Thunder have separated themselves as the clear-cut top contenders for the NBA Finals. Later, they debate whether Steph Curry’s Golden State Warriors or Donovan Mitchell’s Cleveland Cavaliers are the bigger surprise threat before answering if Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Milwaukee Bucks or Nikola Jokic’s Denver Nuggets will turn it around after a slow start. Next, Jason and the Nerds debate whether LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers or Luka Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks are more likely to go on a deep run in the NBA Playoffs. The show ends with the guys discussing if Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns are legitimate contenders after their fast start to the year.

  1. Im a Mavs fan, and I clearly see that they won’t make it far if they don’t replace Klay with a good perimeter defender in the starting lineup. He should come off the bench. Defense was a huge reason they made it to the finals last season… and they lost a lot of that now that djj is gone.

  2. So what you’re saying is the warriors are high in the tierlist because they can theoretically match with the top tiers.

The Warriors are Sonic in Smash Ultimate I guess.

  3. Very premature. One guy said OKC could have one of the GREATEST TEAMS EVER. and your’e saying you are already excited for the finals matchup that hasn’t been decided 🤦🏽‍♂️

  4. one day people will realize how good a defender Dean Wade is

he’s a better defender than he is a shooter lmao but because he looks like an accountant no one believes it

  5. The main problem with the bucks is doc Rivers. They were 30 and 13 before him, same roster, but with doc Rivers they are 19 and 23. I believe that there is no adjustment to fix the jinx that doc Rivers Is. He destroyed my clippers team

  6. With Murray and AG hurt, Denver is middle-bottom of the West even if Jok drops trip dubs every night. Yes, lazy D, but turnovers are killing them too.

  7. Another unknown analyst with statistics! I understand picking the Cavs vs. Warriors for the finals because the West is tough. However picking the Cavs due to Mobley? That's unreasonable!

  8. Lakers title chance: Lakers have one of the worst benches in the League. I dont see the Lakers having a starting 5 even with a trade to be at Level of a 2023 Nuggets starting 5 or Warriors 2022 starting 5. That is the Level that they need to be to win 4 Playoffseries. Lebron and AD miss or dont play to certain Level over 15 Games or more the Lakers are likely to be in the Playinmix.

  9. Warriors a surprise? They won a title 2 years ago with Curry, Draymond, Wiggins, Looney, GP2, Kuminga, Moody – and Coach Kerr. And their bench and defense and shooting/skill is outstanding.

  10. Please note:

Stephen Curry wants to be recognized as
THE GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME.

Most don’t identify with this because they identify more with his humble approach. Still, when this season ends and he has earned his 5th ring, this notion will become a reality.

    Keep sleeping 😴

  11. The nerds are silent Kd haters, I see right through their bias. They said Ryan Dunn is the biggest reason for their good start lol. Both had him 11th best player goin into the season which anyone who knows ball knows that’s mental. If this was Jokic they would’ve been on their knees

  12. Got to love Jason and his ridiculous pronouncements. Boston and OKC are on a whole different tier….even though both lost to inferior teams today and Cleveland is the only undefeated team. Can’t wait for Dallas to play both. If you’ve watched their games the formula to beating them is simple….guard them and don’t leave your man. Boston relies on the two mediocre white guys getting open looks (which they hit at a high percentage) as well as White and Holiday (who can’t do shit if they’re actually being guarded).

OKC is very deep, but the only two standout players are SGA and Chet. Everyone else is above average but one dimensional. You can outmatch them but if you try to cheat off them, they go 8 or 9 deep with guys consistently knocking down 3s. But control the tempo and keep them from getting an open look and they all lack the ability to take their man off the dribble.

  13. Mailbag question: A lot of the Warriors early success is due to their depth. Is there a win-win trade that doesn’t drain the Warriors depth chart?

Also, you were pretty high on the Warriors beating the Celtics, but how much stock can we put on that win without Brown or Porzingis?

  14. Oh you called the finals correctly? First I've heard of that. NOT

Seriously how many victory laps can you take over getting one freaking prediction right. Let's see how that Denver prediction works out for you.
