I said it in the Reddit hockey thread to a fellow hawk fan who was down on this team this year which I am as well and thought it was worth the repost.
They’re going to be better next year. We have young hungry players waiting in the wings. This year is going to be frustrating for sure but next season is going to be really fun I think. Top 5 pick is going to join the team. Lev and Korch come up. Nazar makes the team after seasoning in the A. Then you have question marks, does lardis jump into the lineup as a third line scoring forward. Does spellacy come in as Trent Fredric/ Tom Wilson. You have del Mastro killing it. You have Colton dach just waiting for his opportunity. There’s a lot to be excited about. Roman kantersov comes over from the K next season and seems to be the perfect player to play with bedard.
A little too late on their offensive pressure, but they consistently look lost and out of position
* The Stars were the better team throughout the game. The Hawks couldn’t get much going offensively.
* Vlasic and Murphy logged a 3:07 shift in the 2nd.
* Bedard got frustrated and took an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for kicking away an opponent’s stick.
* Bertuzzi redirected a Bedard pass for a PPG.
Went into this game expecting to get spanked by the Stars but God that sucked. 5 SOG halfway thru the 2nd?! Ugh
Bedard is a student of the game. He knows where this hawks team is at.
His fave player crosby still needed malkin. Same with mcdavid.
This was another game that was always going to be hard for us to win. Our first two periods were awful, but we had a better third period. Ultimately, I just feel that we are not playing the way we were in the first 5 games or so of the season.
Hawks need a pregame ritual to loosen up so they can feel more confident in the first period
Maybe play recent Hawks highlights of previous successes. Visualize success!
How many times have we pulled the goalie and had good o zone possession all to have Seth jones selfishly shoot then lose possession then other team scores in the empty net
The fact that they played to the end against a team thats destined possibly for a cup this year is a good sign. They aren’t giving up. They need a bit more of a scoring punch and but faster starts but they look different than last year. This is a different team with some real fight
Seeing this level of intensity going toe to toe with Dallas, a team that has Benn and others towards the end of their contracts after this year and going all in for the Cup, I’ll take it. Even if the outcome isn’t what we hope for.
Don’t think the lines were working tonight, no surprise given they were mostly new combos. Not a fan of that Bedard line tho. I don’t like Reichel feeling that he needs to be passing to Bedsy every time, that kid needs to be more selfish this year.
