[Official] Will Venable Named White Sox Manager

  1. Someone with experience that comes from a winning organization. Is this the white Sox ?

  2. Getz got his guy. It’s a good hire. Now let’s flesh out the coaching staff.

And thank you, Grady, for righting the ship a bit at the end of the year. The guys actually seemed to start getting along.

Edit: I will say, the biggest thing to me is that this shows Venable sees what’s coming from Birmingham. He wants to be a part of this rebuilding. He could have taken a job last year with the Mets and another team which is escaping me right now, he didn’t and now he’s ours. If you’ve been paying attention to AA – which you should be right now – you’ll see that there’s some great guys coming up fast.

  3. Really nothing bad you can say about this hire. Seems like the best managerial hire on paper that I’ve seen in my adult life by this organization. A respectable move for sure, but still a long way to go.

  4. Good hire. Will be interesting to hear who is on his staff now. I would expect Katz back as pitching coach and Grady likely back in some other role if he wants to stay.

Do they keep Thames or does Venable have his own guy he wants to bring in? Who is his bench coach (probably needs a more experienced one than Grady).

  5. The video they posted on IG of him talking was bland and boring and literally the same verbiage as Pedro and Grady. Already off to a bland start. Meh.

  6. Can’t say I’m excited about anything White Sox related, but it’s nice they wrapped up their guy quickly.

  7. Zero affiliation with the Royals and has experience with some good organizations. One of the few moves from Getz I can respect.

  8. A good hire. Wonder if Getz had to give up some power.
Lets see if Venable gets to pick his coaching staff.

  9. I’m honestly surprised someone with his resume would even be willing to take the job so I’ll take the win here as we don’t get a lot of them.
