While it will lie solely with Sasaki on what team he’d like to play for, He can’t be paid an obscene amount like Yamamoto of LAD due to his age. The Brewers could do it. I doubt they will and I doubt he would sign with Milwaukee, but it isn’t unfathomable.
Brewers should pitch their pitching development and run prevention systems given the amount he can earn is capped and go for it.
Lmao
People laughing at the idea of being able to sign Sasaki don’t know what the Brewers have for IFA bonus pool against the teams people think are likely landing spots.
$7,555,500 Reds, Tigers, Marlins, Brewers, Twins, Athletics, Mariners, and Rays.
$6,908,600 Diamondbacks, Orioles, Guardians, Rockies, Royals, and Pirates
$6,261,600 Braves, Red Sox, Cubs, White Sox, Angels, Mets, Yankees, Phillies, Padres, Rangers, Blue Jays, and Nationals
$5,646,200 Astros and Cardinals
$5,146,200 Dodgers and Giants
Bonus pool money can be traded, so I don’t know if these have changed since April.
Curt Hogg posted 3 top 50 IFA expected to sign with Milwaukee. (#35 Kenny Fenelon, #41 Brailyn Atunez, and #44 Christopher Acosta) Assume $2.5-$4 M of our pool is locked up there. Depending on how much the other Sasaki suitors have locked in, we could still be sitting on the most money left to spend on him.
Dodgers will just commit 1 mill a year and defer the other 300 billion in 20 years.
Add in he gets to pick
Hes going to LA most likely.
Cool, I posted this speculative about a month ago and now it’s coming true! At the time, fans in here overwhelmingly told me MIL doesn’t have the money to sign him (ignorant that Roki is subject to international FA contract restrictions, literally he cannot sign for some bonkers ammt). I hope MIL puts their best foot forward for this dude, the alignment of our pitching lab with his natural talent would be so very fun to watch, plus the position of the team we have youth around the diamond… it’s an appealing fantasy!
Idk, I think this guy is a competitor for wanting to come to the big leagues in the first place. I understand the appeal of ‘LAD west coast, big market, big money, lol’ but being able to say to someone with a competitive spirt like you can come here, learn/settle into an entirely different way of life with less media pressure, possibly even build a legit championship run **against** that big market team and then go sign with them for your payday after… it may be my bias as a fan but I think that’s not an unexciting offer?
