Tune in as we start by discussing the loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Pavel Datsyuk Hall of Fame Game night, including defensive play, Dylan Larkin’s goal-scoring streak and power play prowess (from Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat), Moritz Seider’s unfortunate turnover with Patrick Kane behind him and Cam Talbot leaving the net, & more (6:25). Next, the 4-0 loss to Igor Shesterkin and the New York Rangers, including Quick’s solid game, Lucas Raymond & Co. not capitalizing on key chances, Derek Lalonde’s squad’s penalty killing and 5v5 offensive woes, & lots more (15:50).

We then discuss Hockeytown’s vibes through 14 games, whether things are actually this negative or if there’s even too much positivity, what Steve Yzerman has in front of him in terms of roster, defensive holes behind Seider & Edvinsson, & more (30:10) before we give some good news on Lucas Raymond’s career comparables to Datsyuk and Zetterberg and Dmitri Buchelnikov’s fantastic season in the KHL (40:30).

After that, a thorough discussion on the new NCAA-CHL agreement, how it would affect the careers of prospects like Celibrini, Rasmussen in the past, & other stars, and what this means of the OHL, QMJHL, WHL, USHL, NCAA, and the rest of the hockey system (43:30). We wrap with NHL news including the Winnipeg Jets’ historic start, Fabbro to Columbus, Sprong traded again, & plenty more (53:00) before we take your questions & comments in our Overtime segment (58:25) – enjoy!

  1. It's time to do what the Tigers did. Promote the talented kids and see what we have. Maybe they're ready sooner than expected. We won't know until we give them time in the NHL. They can't be worse than what we have now.

  2. The biggest difference this year compared to last year is that Red Wing is boring as hell to watch trying to play a game they can't handle.

It has to do with their head coach for sure. Three years and none of his three different teams can play as he wants, scandal with RW history and identity.

RW is on its way to nine straight years of not making the playoffs.
NINE years in a row and the head coach who thinks he is happy with parts of the game.. Only Buffalo beats them in having more years of failure in a row, when Buffalo succeeds RW is the NHL laughing stock, thank you very much S.Y.

S.Y has a huge responsibility here and he doesn't get a lot of crap from the media or streamers, probably because he is considered God in hockey town. The team he assembled this year is laughable to watch and follow from overseas

  3. Berggren, kasper, Raymond line. Make it happen! Kasper inflicts havoc on the other team while Berggren is the play maker who helps Raymond score a bit more. We need to form a line designed to make Raymond the trigger man. Designing the line to make Berggren the playmaker and Raymond the shooter might help this Raymond scoring issue. Kasper can do a bit of everything hopefully as he gets more comfortable with the league.

  4. Wonder if the sentiment changes if the bunch of posts hit were goals in the first two periods of the Rangers game.
If ifs and buts were candy and nuts then today would be Christmas I guess.
Had some quality chances and could’ve had a decisive lead. Didn’t watch the third period while putting a kiddo to bed.

  5. Lalonde is a garbage tier coach. Apathy is setting in now. Until major changes come, it’s just going to get worse. Yzerman is immune to criticism, because he was captain forever ago. This is a bad situation and they’re not even fun to watch.

  6. John Scott talking about bad Red Wings players on the pod like he wasn’t one hahaa! Brad shoulda made up a mean pun for him to his face or had Evan challenge him 🥊

  7. Again the kids are not being given a good look,,drafting by Yzerman has been good and we shall see HOW GOOD when they actually play,,where Stevie STINKS !! his signings,, he let free agents like Perron,,Namestnikov, even Sprong and basically gave away Wallman and let Goshisbehave go !! Terrible !! In there place we have Peitry, Holl,, Rangers D G ? and Teerisenko,,I mean if this was a trade it woukld rank as one of the worst trades EVER !!!! Yzerman should be put on a short lease.

  8. Fans have a right to be upset but idk how you go into this season thinking we are a 'good team' talent wise. Detroit as of the start of the LaLonde tenure is an 80-90 pt team. THATS NOT A PLAYOFF COMPETITIVE TEAM! It's very mediocre. It's not surprising; it shouldn't be a hard reality to accept right now. You got a taste of improvement and now you're a fiend? Ok. Our top 3 prospects arguably by ppg are Buchnelikov (21pts in 24), Kiiskinen(injured, 16pts in 18games) and ASP(14pts in 17). All overseas; I believe ASP could make the Raymond/Seider type graduation to the NHL ; point is they're not in NA. Whether you believe smaller ice affects that is open to debate. If Yzerman sells at the deadline is the 'smart fanbase' gonna go conspiracy mode and accuse him of sabotage again?

  9. The team has not been electrifying so far! The 16 games are groundbreaking but not hopeless in reaching our playoff goal.
What I have been criticizing for over 2 years is that the young players are not getting enough use. They might not be better, but they are getting more game experience. This would be more valuable for the future team than paying 2-3 veterans between $5-6 million. They should rather get a top player for $8-12 million. If not, then we should just leave everything alone and continue to go around in circles and not change anything (ironic).
I give Lalonde a certain amount of blame. Since he has been in Detroit, he has not really made a difference. Bashill even had to work with a worse team. I don't see any system in Lalonde that he wants to convey. In the press conferences he always says the same thing. He also shows no passion, which Detroit fans love. Even if we are last in the league, we love our team, we have passion.
    Let Zetterberg coach the team!
