After speaking to sources informed of the Saints’ thinking, there are several factors that point to a retooling rather than a full rebuild that would entail embracing a long process of collecting draft picks and losing in order to build it back up.

Depth must improve to withstand injuries. But in the minds of the decision-makers, that start was proof that there is a core there worth keeping together.

Ian Rapoport On The Saints Rebuild
New Orleans isn’t planning for an overhaul. There will be changes, and likely an effort to get younger. But they aren’t envisioning taking their franchise down to the studs, just like they didn’t plan a fire sale prior to this past Tuesday’s trade deadline. With a roster they believe is far better than their record, one besieged by unrelenting injuries, the Saints believe in pushing forward, rather than stepping back.

Ian Rapoport On The Saints Rebuild
The Saints pushed money forward when Brees was in his prime, still had a window to win their division after he retired, dealt with COVID and never quite reset. They believe that window is still open and that the talent is there. So, no, rebuilding is not in the plans for New Orleans.

Don’t jinx it! 👍 the video so the Saints win during the 2024 NFL Season!

  1. We need to have a fire sale of all the overpaid veterans and get as many 2025 draft picks as possible. DO NOT TRADE UP. We need every pick we can get. We need a STUD center and at least one other guard or tackle on the O line. We need help on the D line as well. It's also time to draft a new young LB. We are OLD and EXPENSIVE. Regardless of what the team's 'average age' is, we are old at linebacker, old at DE, Getting old At RB etc. We need young talent on rookie contracts and Loomis needs to go!! We need to see a 2017 style draft class once again- FINGERS CROSSED.

  2. I don't know if Rizzi is the long term solution or not. But I will say this: This team looked COMPLETELY different. High energy, flying around the field, Positive body language, swagger etc. Something that we haven't seen in a wile. It was clear to me that they were having fun and that they took pride in their team. Like I said, it's only 1 game, but whoever winds up as the HC, this is the kind of passion that we need to be playing with.

  3. Let's say you cut DC to save money. OK, now what? Who is going to play QB? It doesn't seem obvious to me that either of our backups are starting QB ready at this time. And I don't see the type of QB talent in this year's draft that would warrant a 1st round pick. This is not a great QB draft class. So for all those saying that DC needs to go, who we gonna get that's better? DC is the best option at this point.
