[Heyman] Blue Jays could play spoiler in Yankees-Mets Juan Soto sweepstakes

> The Jays are viewed by industry sources as a viable obstacle to the favored Yankees and Mets, thanks to a well-heeled ownership and strong incentive to improve coming off the abject disappointment of 2024. They’ve had difficulty luring superstars, presumably due to geography and finances (high taxes and the Canadian dollar complicate things). But word is they are highly motivated and sources suggest they plan to be in big.
> The Dodgers, Giants and Red Sox and two other “mystery” teams (one believed to be from a smaller market) are believed to be planning to **join the Jays, Mets and Yankees on trips to southern California to visit with the 26-year-old superstar starting this week.**
>Toronto was one of three teams along with the Giants and winning Dodgers known to accede to Shohei Ohtani’s $700M request, **and are actually seen as among the ones who devised that heavily deferred arrangement that brought the value to $437.4M,** possibly to deal with high Canadian tax (it obviously may also play in California).
>The Jays along with the Giants tried to trade for Soto before the Yankees landed him at last year’s Winter Meetings
fuck Jon heyman
I will BBQ and eat a Jays hat if he signs here.
I did a good job of not getting my hopes up about Shohei until that day where he was “on the plane”.
I will not fold this time.
I want to believe this, but feel like jays will be used as leverage again to get him more money elsewhere.
I’d like to play spoiler in Jon Heyman’s breakfast cereal.
The daily “big free agent is potentially signing with Toronto (even though there is no chance it actually happens)” tweet.
Repeat after me gang: Not. Gonna. Happen.
Heyman acts as a direct mouthpiece for Boras, which is why Heyman more often than not always breaks Boras client signings before anyone. So if he’s saying the Jays are serious, then I’m inclined to believe him.
Odds aren’t in our favour obviously competing against the Mets and Yankees, but the calculus to signing Soto is very easy: He very clearly wants the biggest contract both in terms of AAV and total value in baseball history. If you outbid everyone, he’ll come.
Leverage baby, leverage
Jays will probably bid big, but I have a hard time seeing Soto signing here.
Jays win either way though – either land a huge FA or tease the fans ‘just enough’ that they’re actually trying to make the team better, that you sell enough season tickets to help the bottom line.
Probably way more smoke here than real fire, but would love to be proved wrong.
Play spoiler, being used to bring up prices, whatever u like to call it, after Ohtani I’m so done with being hopeful
He’s on a plane now!
They will only play spoiler by upping the price that either the Mets and Yankees spend being used as leverage, we’ve seen this episode repeatedly for decades, culminating in last off seasons debacle yet Shatkins keep falling for this carnival trick and engaging.
Boras’s mouthpiece is hard at work.
All he will do is use the Jays to leverage a higher deal in the states
It’s as good as done
Stop this
Two analysts are saying this now. Rumored 630 million.
I saw him at Miku just now with vladdy and Bo.
I firmly believe Soto will come to the highest bidders i just think the likelihood of both the Yankees and Mets being outbid is minimal.
Don’t believe anything Heyman says. I bet he gets kickbacks from Boras to jack make up rumors to get his players more.
Yes, they be second in a group of three. Same as it always is. Focus elsewhere.
Oy vey.
I’m immediately buying his jersey if he comes here
Stop trying to make fetch happen John.
Well this will be bad for baseball eh Jonny boy
Feels like I’ve seen this song and dance a few times now.
I’m not getting my hopes up over a rumour again. If Soto is to sign here, either he himself or the Blue Jays can tell me that it has happened.
Except they won’t, enough with the headlines. Totally got blue-balled with ohtani, let’s not go through the same situation again, the media can get lost with stories like these.
Another superstar using the jays as leverage to get a higher contract, from a different team, cool
Ignore it. The only reliable sources are Passan or the official page. Everything else is leverage by Boras. Don’t buy fuckin’ anything. The media would say the Jays are in on Patrick Mahomes if he hit FA too.
Talk to me when he’s apparently on a plane to Toronto this December.
Leave us alone!
The classic Heyman third team, that Scott Boras instructs him to name drop. Free agents are 0 for infinity signing said team.
I fear this is wishful thinking
No they couldn’t. You can’t hurt me again Heyman
All these bullshit articles spreading fake news about Soto possibly coming to the Jays, we all know he won’t and it’s just another Ohtani move
They won’t.
They spelled “used for leverage” wrong
I doubt it could be talks but I don’t see it unless we’re playing mlb the show then I could definitely happen but I don’t see it happening but that’s me I’d love it but it doesn’t seem realistic.
I’m ready to be hurt again
Charlie Brown kicking the football if you’re falling for this
I’m sorry I just don’t see it happening.
The Jays will have to offer something crazy like 50m per over 14 years to get him.
Nuh uh. Nope. Not doing this again.
I will do a handstand while taking a shit if we sign Juan Soto.
Toronto is a leveraging chip. Don’t forget the last off season.
This shit is clickbait.
I will streak buck naked through my office if he signs here.
