[Lombardi] Kyle Shanahan said that Taybor Pepper “overreacted a little bit” to Deebo Samuel challenging Jake Moody to raise his level of play, which led to Samuel shoving Pepper.

  1. Remove the punch and I don’t see anything wrong with this. Moody needed to be held accountable but don’t take a swipe at your teammate on TV bruh keep that shit in-house

  2. I don’t see anything wrong with it. I get it as a team
Leader you should be encouraging. But there’s guys who want to be coddled and there’s guys who need
To be yelled at to increase their play. Look at BB, bill walsh, parcells, Sean Payton, etc. do your job!!!

  3. I don’t agree with Deebo putting his hands on Pepper but even Moody was trying to pull Pepper back before the shove happened. Pepper escalated this situation unnecessarily.

  4. I swear I saw Deebo go right up to Moody after the game winner to congratulate him in the mob. He was the only one wearing a white headband. Which told me that what he said to Moody initially wasn’t as profane as everyone made it out to be.

  5. Everyone in here calling Deebo a bitch, diva or that he needs to be cut has never played a contact sport or ever been in any sort of uncomfortable position in their entire life. This is getting way overblown. Move on.

  6. Pls people, go watch the presser or read the whole quote. Don’t be as stupid as the people on r/nfl, this is a nothing burger

  7. I think Shanny and the offense need to step up their game and get into the end zone more. Such a talented group shouldn’t be settling for 5+ field goals in a game.

  8. I think reading between the lines here, shanahan knew the whole team was frustrated with moody and that’s why he took deebos side but also uplifted moody after.

  9. people in the nfl threads downvoting me to hell cuz i said it isnt a big deal and grown men in professional sports scuffle all the time 🙄 good thing most of reddit doesnt coach the niners

  10. Why are people so overly sensitive about this? Players don’t make the NFL because they’re good people, they make the NFL because they perform at a level higher than anyone else. If you can’t handle some yelling during the heat of a game then you can’t handle the NFL. Dude is getting paid millions to kick a ball and if he can’t do that three times in a row what do people expect to happen. Deebo didn’t go out there and clothesline Pepper stop acting like this is a bigger issue. The bigger issue is that they are underperforming on both sides of the ball. Because of this they blew at least 2 games, although I woud argue they should have beaten the Vikings as well.

  11. Its almost like they weren’t playing to their standard and everyone got a little frustrated and it boiled over. Not a big deal. Happens in all sports at all levels.

  12. From a teammate perspective I didn’t really care that Deebo went after the kicker

But from a sports psychology perspective it’s a bad call

Yelling at moody isn’t going to make him better

It’s like yelling at your goalie after he lets in a bad goal

Pushing your long snapper isn’t acceptable but it is what it is

    Everyone is alright moving on

  13. Do people really, genuinely care that much about this? It’s football, one of the most violent games in the world. 2 players in the same team got heated and one of them hit the other one.

I think it’s really just an excuse to hate on Deebo and the Niners.

  14. Pretty rough to watch all the guys on this sub with an agenda marching into the threads last night to heap on Deebo. He’s played well for the 49ers since his new contract, time to get over any residual resentment you have from the negotiations..

“Punching”, “choking” etc. Either willfully ignorant, or soft. It was a shove. And if any normal non-dramatic person doesn’t bowl over in pain from it, i’m sure a nfl player won’t.

  15. Everyone on Reddit seemed to be bending over backwards to make this a big deal. Even seeing folks suggesting the team should suspend Deebo

  16. Dudes who push and shove people with intensity on trial for…pushing and shoving each other with intensity.

    Next…

  17. True, but Deebo didn’t have to shove him by the throat. Be civil and push him through the chest

  18. That’s neat that Pepper has his kickers back and all that but Deebo is a fuckin team captain for a reason. This guy is a goddamn long snapper. We shouldn’t even know his name. He needs to know his role and I’m not mad at Deebo for reminding him

  19. Got heavily downvoted by r/nfl for basically saying it how it was that Deebo was trying to encourage Moody. Legit goes to show that everyone there are a bunch of snow flakes that never played a sport or faced adversity with teammates without daring to take accountability.

  20. All you pansies taking peppers side is hilarious. Talking about never putting hands on a teammate. It’s literally football.

  21. Lotta armchair coaches that just assume Deebo was in the wrong. R/nfl was saying he has domestic violence and murderous tendencies, unironically. Then we got rams fans saying he’s a POS when they had Aaron Donald doing way worse for way less. This is such a stupid storyline

  22. I said this in r/nfl too, but I find it insane the media and fans making a bigger deal of this and trashing Deebo’s character more than players who are actual domestic abusers or otherwise.

I don’t like that it happened, but feels like such a nothing burger compared to all the other actual assholes allowed to play in this league 😑

  23. Step 1: Deebo goes to Moody on the sideline, tells Moody to lock in.

Step 2: Taybor goes up to them and yells at Deebo

    Step 3: Deebo shoves Taybor.

In step 3 Deebo was clearly wrong for shoving Taybor. There is no defending that.

(We love that he stood up for his guy) But Taybor didn’t *need* to get involved. If he hadn’t, the situation likely would have ended at step 1 without any further conflict.

That’s really all Kyle is saying.

  24. I don’t have a problem with Deebo giving Moody some words.

I don’t have a problem with Pepper defending his guy.

My problem is when it escalated to the point where Deebo is putting his hands on Pepper.

  25. Samuel spoke on behalf of the millions of 49ers fans outside the USA who can only scream at television screens.

  26. Redditors that demanded that Deebo be suspended look like morons now.

I mean, they did the second they voiced their opinions. But now they’re aware.

  27. Better Pepper said something like “well if you could get any seperation we wouldn’t have to be relying on field goals”

  28. In good with Pepper taking ownership but Deebo shouldn’t get a free pass. He didn’t have to do what he did.
