Is our WR group really average??

Is our WR group really average??

  1. After Terry the quality drops off pretty hard. I feel like we do need at least another Terry level WR for next season to really compete.

  2. Outside of Terry yeah. Noah Brown is ideally a 3, Dyami Brown and Zaccheaus are both incredibly mid, Luke is still raw. I feel confident saying our WR2-5 is bottom 5 in the league.

  3. After Terry it’s very average. Noah has been solid but that third down drop is the difference between having an elite WR2. Not sure how bold of a take it is but I think Curtis Samuel makes that catch 9/10 times

  4. Lol, Lamar Jackson, the QB who spent the vast majority of his career barely utilizing his WR’s?

Even this season, our WR’s have more total yards (1578 vs 1546) than the Ravens WR’s.

    – WAS WR’s: 1578 REC YDS / 2350 PASS YDS = __67.1%__
    – BAL WR’s: 1546 REC YDS / 2670 PASS YDS = __57.9%__

  5. I’m rooting for the Bengals to mess it up with Ja’marr Chase and he some how becomes available this off-season.

But I do believe WR is a position that needs to be upgraded. Maybe another pass catching TE if Sinot doesn’t come along.

  6. Before all the drops Sunday I would have said “Naw.”. Ask me again at the end of the season.

  7. Our receivers are fine. They get decent separation for “bums” drops were the issue this past week

  8. people in here is giving our wrs more leway than they deserve. outside of terry, we have a below average wr group. our #2 and #3 wrs are career journeyman at best and our wr 4 is a rookie that still is extremely raw in his abilities

  9. Our WR group is pretty meh after terry but we have weapons as a whole. Ertz is a good route running TD and ekeler is a great pass catching RB.

We could absolutely use better WRs but the offense is moving the ball. Assuming we don’t see consistent repeats of Sunday’s drop-fest I would put this low on the list of team needs compared to some of the other areas (OL depth and many areas defense)

  10. Terry gets doubled a lot, if we had another elite receiver it would make a huge difference.  I think drafting one next year in the 2-4th round is the best option.

  11. Yeah they have huge holes they were 4-13 last year. Y’all need to chill out. Everything is pointing to Washington actually making the right qb pick, they have a solid interior line, and running backs. They’ve already aggressively outplayed pretty much every analysts predictions for this year, and y’all want to bitch and moan. Shut the fuck up and root for the team.

  12. You dont need wr1 tyoe receivers

You need 2 REALLY GOOD tight ends

Ask the patriots, outside of randy moss they had “average” receivers that ran good routes…had good hands…and were just dogs

I call them factory  workers lol

  13. Lamar numbers? Jayden is a good rookie but Lamar is an all time great. Let the rookie play more than part of a year and don’t get upset he doesn’t measure up to hall of famers.

  14. Terry’s scary and all that, but we definitely need more strong options for JD to throw to and keep a defense on their toes.

  15. People are overreacting and shifting blame after a close loss.

The WR group isn’t some star studded cast, but it’s certainly not bad by any measure.

  16. An elite QB raises the level of his Recv. So yes our Recv are avg to below avg but JD5 raises them a level. We need a true #1. Big fast and physical. Someone like Justin Jefferson or AJ Brown. Terry not that level.

  17. According to people who watch film, Luke is apparently open on damn near every route he runs. I’d like to see him get more targets.

But I think our WR room is pretty bad. No one behind Terry has shown anything to be a WR2. They’re a bunch of 3s and 4s with unique skillsets that Kliff and Jayden have been able to maximize so far.

  18. The WR group was playing really well. Overachieving really. They came back down to Earth on Sunday. Just an awful showing. Lost us the game. Yes, we need to draft a WR with one of our top 3 picks and sign a good vet/rising player.

  19. If we are being honest Terry is better than any receiver Lamar has had. I do think an upgrade at WR2 should be a priority in the offaeason

  20. People are overreacting on a bad game imo, we should just focus on defensive pickups still. Players rarely if ever drop a punt, which should be evidence it was a bad game. They make most catches they drop this game

  21. We lost to the Steelers based entirely on the fact that our receivers can’t catch a damn ball. I love our guys but thems the facts. I whole heartedly believe we are a top 5 team next year after we fill a few holes in the draft/free agency. We all knew this wasn’t our year but I think we are all happy with the turnout. If we shit the bed next year THEN you can be pissed.

  22. I don’t disagree. I’m thinking of the Garcon/Djax days, our offense would be even more explosive.

  23. How bout Jayden just puts up Jayden numbers? We don’t have to compare a rookie to an mvp winner after 10 games.

As far as the receiving core? Typically they’ve been pretty decent. This weekend they just had a lot of drops, maybe weather somehow impacted that? I know It rained towards the end of the game, can we upgrade on Zaccheus? Yes. Dyami? Yes. But let’s remember we lost to the Steelers by 1 without our workhorse RB and our two starting tackles, AND our new CB1 and still looked like a strong team.

Let’s be patient and just see what our options are in the offseason, we have a lot of cap to use reasonably. Trust in Peters

  24. Outside of Terry it is very average. Houston didn’t have room for Noah Brown and he is our number 2 at this point.

  25. Terry.

Ertz is next in recieving as a TE.

Noah Brown is typically a 500 yard reciever.

    Ekeler is the RB

Zaccheaus is trash and he’s already this WR3

Dyami Brown is not that guy.

Luke McCaffery has some slot potential but still a rookie

Outside of Terry, this is an awful room. Ekeler and Ertz are bridge guys as well and they should be drafting or signing someone longer term.

  26. Its compotent..but we definitely are missing that blow the socks off stud. Just watching players Jamar Chase, Zay Flowers, Nabers, etc. These are thr kind of receivers you simply cant bottle up.

  27. im not a guy that likes to make excuses…because lamar didn’t have a caliber or receivers and was still doing big things..despite our average receivers we are still putting up big numbers as a team. also in this first season we aren’t asking him to do alot…we gotta remember this is JDs FIRST year..look at year 6 lamar! he’s playing so freaking good!

  28. I love our guys but realistically our group is below average. Terry is great we all know that but our WR2 didn’t make his previous team’s roster. Definitely a position to address in the off-season

  29. The WRs are alright.. they aren’t elite. It would be good to have a dude like zay who can beat man all the time but it takes time. Lamar never had weapons for years because they built their D and the Oline and whiffed on weapon picks. Lamar basically only had mark Andrew’s for a loooong time.

JD is capable of beating teams from the pocket.. if he has a clean time he will find the open dude. He struggled with pressure last game.. I would say we needed our tackles in the game more than our weapons. Yeah they had a bad game but if our weapons were playing bad and we scored 27 idk if that’s really the problem.. we easily had 34 scored if we catch the fucking ball.. but those balls are delivered better if Scott isn’t playing.

We chip a TON because our tackles aren’t great.. those dudes could be running routes. So even if we had more than 2 weapons.. the 3rd one gets stuck chipping unless he’s a TE.. Ertz does decently getting open he just doesn’t run after the catch and to me that’s fine as long as you’re sure handed. Can’t drop the fucking ball if you’re going to be the blanket.

Would we be better with a solid #2? Yeah who wouldn’t.. but even Joe B struggles with Higgins and Chase because his Oline is booty cheeks.. did you see the giants v bengals game?

Burrow has all the weapons but still couldn’t score on the giants as much as we did.. so weapons are great.. without time it doesn’t matter.

  30. I can agree with that. Terry is a beast and Ertz is a great TE. Noah Brown is ok but I feel like he is still developing. Dyami Brown is the definition of average. McCaffrey is also a good TE but nothing special.

It wouldn’t hurt to bag another elite WR. Though what we have is also very workable and far from being bad.

  31. Seeing a lot of people arguing our WR room is average. I don’t really get that – I think our group is far below average. If Terry were to get hurt we’d have a bottom – 5 WR group in the league.

Our top options after Terry are:

Brown who was cut in the offseason

Ertz who is old and slow

and Zacchheaus who has < 40 catches in all but one of his 6 seasons.

None of those guys would be top 3 options on an above average pass catching group. I’m really glad Kliff and Jayden have this group performing well but you’re kidding yourself if you think it’s a middle-of-the-pack receiving group.

  32. Maybe less than average. Terry is good. But the rest of our guys are better as depth pieces. You’d be thrilled with someone like Noah Brown if he was your WR4. Dyami is still inconsistent even if he makes a splash play once in awhile. OZ, well, everyone sees that one.

LMC and Sinnott are not included because they’re rookies and still developing.

Ertz and Ekeler are old and definitely lost a step or two.
