The Penguings are beyond embarrassing

On November 11, 2024, the Pittsburgh Penguins endured a challenging game against the Dallas Stars, conceding six goals in the first period and ultimately losing 7-1. This marked the first time in franchise history that the Penguins allowed six goals in the opening period of a home game. The Stars’ offensive surge was led by Miro Heiskanen, who scored two goals, and Mason Marchment, who contributed a goal and four assists. Penguins goaltender Joel Blomqvist was replaced after allowing three goals on eight shots, highlighting the team’s defensive struggles during the game.

  1. Malkin is a -1, Crosby is a -5, Karlsson is a -7, Letang is a -10. This is partly on Dubas, but it's also partly on Crosby, Karlsson, and Letang.

But the worst part for Pittsburgh is that McGroarty is the only skater under 25 years old to play for Pittsburgh this season. Pittsburgh has no youth. Even their 25-29 crowd is completely uninspiring. This is on Dubas 100%.

  2. No one ever whined about lemieux’s career being wasted when he carried the penguins on his back at the beginning and end of his career. Sick of hearing about Crosby being wasted. Crosby is NO lemieux

  3. I think everyone always likes to blame Puljujärvi just his presence seems to causing losses apparently. NO! BUt JEsse to first line!!!!!

  4. Overhaul the backend. I don't know what else to suggest. You're not gonna get anybody better than Sid and Geno up front, get some stay-at-home D that will take care of that end, let the forwards cook, they'll figure it out. Dubas needs to shake things up, if only to send a message.

  5. We have to get a lottery pick. I'm glad we're losing. Everyone realizes we've been competing for the last 20 fucking years right? No team can stay good after that many championships without rebuilding and getting some young talent. But sure, keep trying to throw our future away just for one last glimpse of glory. I'm happy Dubas is keeping our draft picks

  6. A defenseman coming off a 100 point season is not past his prime. Also they traded for him, they didnt sign him.

This coaching staff couldn't get anything out of a powerplay that features 3 first ballot HoFers last season. Sullivan is cooked and has been for a long time.

  7. Blomqvist had an off night but the loss is definitely not on him. I think it’s mostly the coaching, things havent been working really since two seasons ago

  8. The problem is 3 seasons ago the Penguins decided to double down on an old team. The Capitals, basically in the same situation, decided to infuse youth and make adjustments, and the payoff is visible now. But the Pens have a much bigger hole now.
But short memories from the fans. Look at the pre-Crosby/Malkin couple of years or the pre Mario years. Its cyclical and they've had a really good and consistent run of success until recently.
A coaching change or a shake up trade won't do it. They need a significant structual adjustment.

  9. I’m so done I just can’t anymore. This is so ridiculous. This team is playing worse than the sharks and the Blackhawks. There is no reason that should be happening. I just can’t anymore.

  10. Brings a tear to my eye to see the penguins stink so bad! As a flyers fan, sure flyers aren't great but we are on the rebuild. But it makes it all worth it to see the very old penguins play so bad! They are basically the opposite of a rebuild team

  11. You literally can say it….EK is a liability and a huge cap hit for ANY team for almost no gain. When Sid takes a team friendly deal and you reward the franchise with the worst contract it could have possibly taken on….yikes.

  12. there seems to be a trend of teams trading for and signing a big name defenseman to keep a legends legacy alive only for it to blow up in their face, first chicago, and now pittsburg. As a chicago fan it hurt to see kaner get pushed out the door by the incoming rebuild due to the jones trade, I hope the same doesnt happy to crosby, he deserves another run with how good he still is. Shame it might have to be in a different sweater

  13. Simple, Rutherford traded all of our draft picks to win the Cup back to back.

The team has stuck to the same speed-based philosophy with an old, sluggish team. Should’ve shipped Geno and Letang after losing to the Caps in 2018 and rebuilt around Sid’s final years instead of keeping the gang together.

  14. No shade on Joel Blomqvist to be honest. The kid recently came to North America and everyone expected at least a season or two more in AHL for development before getting any games in NHL. He's been getting a shot in NHL solely because Jarry has stunk. And to be fair, he's been pretty OK in the games he has played. Must suck to get the opportunity and then have play behind the current Pens defense though. That's not easy for any goalie, experienced or not. /Pens fan

  15. I think Sullivan needs to go. I don't think he knows what to do at this point. I also don't think blaming Dubas is a fair shake (yet). He did what was expected of him to give the Pens a chance at another winner. Get rid of Sullivan and start the rebuild. Let the vets mentor the next generation and for the ones that still want to compete, let them go elsewhere. Not sure what other option there is beyond continuing the circus.
