  1. I knew he was smart, but only recently discovered he is MAD smart. Apparently, he’s completed all the coursework for a PhD and only needs to finish his dissertation. He’s said if he wasn’t coaching, he’d be a university professor and researcher, at this point. He is first author in the linked article (a big deal in research circles) AND it has been cited in other peer-reviewed studies 74 times (also a big deal).

I genuinely think we may have a unicorn for a head coach. Every few years, some organization gets a hare brained idea to run itself entirely through analytics (usually after someone in the FO reads *Moneyball* and misses the point). Happens in every sport. And it usually fails spectacularly. There is psychology to a team and there are skills/talents that data analysis doesn’t catch. Jordi seems like he has both the deep analytics knowledge (maybe to like a savant level) with a combination of player trust and support. Compared to what we had, the difference is striking.

It’s still really early, but if Cam continues to develop and we hit on the picks, we may have found Him in terms of leadership that turns a young team into a championship team. For a year that was supposed to be about racking up losses to get a high pick (that is still a focus, btw), there is a lot of exciting stuff happening with the Nets this season.

  2. Wow.

My respect for Jordi just went up significantly.

For those of you in here who argue your point and say “trust me bro”, this link will lead you something called “empirical research.”

Empirical research = the OG fuck around and find out.
