  1. Well Blue Jays fans aren’t happy just looking at Twitter so I’ll take this as a win for now.

    Welcome back Matt Hague

  2. Presumably a Cherington loyalist, the more so given that the Blue Jays were both his and Cherington’s previous employer. Expect more of the same bravo sierra.

  3. I was going to say that we can’t get any worse with this move, but this is the Pirates we are talking about.

  4. Coming from Toronto where he was an assistant hitting coach. They had a team wrc+ of 101 last season, tied for 13th in MLB. Buccos were tied with Miami for 27th with 86 (ahead of Rockies (82) and White Sox (75)).

  5. I have no idea how to feel about this. The Blue Jays aren’t exactly famous for their hitting prowess. Here’s how they compared to the Pirates in a few key rankings for hitting, Jays number is first, Pirates second

    AVG: 19th (.241), 23rd (.234)

    HR: 26th (156), 25th (160)

    OBP: 13th (.313), 25th (.301)

    SLG: 20th (.389), 27th (.371)

    OPS: 17th (.702), 27th (.672)

    SO: 25th (1233), 4th (1506)

    BB: 9th (510), 17th (485)

Outside of homers the Jays offense was considerably better in most categories. If the Pirates are able to go from a league bottom offense to a league average offense this team can probably make the noise, now go get some free agents that make the hitting coach less crucial.

    Edit: added OPS.

  6. I judge signings like this based on how the other fanbase subreddit reacts, and the Jays subreddit doesn’t seem happy

    Great signing!
