  1. Man I hate that he is so down. I like him a lot I just hate that he is playing like shit and costing us big time.

  2. He doesn’t put it any effort. Hard to be sympathetic when he literally isn’t even trying out there

  3. Reminds me a lot of Elias Pettersson, very similar players as well. Both streaky Swedes that can dominate when at the top of their games, both tend to pass too much at times, and both really struggle with confidence and the mental side of the game when things aren’t working.

  4. I know what could get him going… more daily posts about how terrible he is from our faithful fanbase

  5. Zibanejad is not a player I’m going to feel bad for unless there’s a personal thing going on. Lindgren, yeah. Big difference in the effort level.

  6. He needs a re-set. This season obviously didn’t start the way he wanted to. I think it would benefit him to sit for a game to just step away and come back fresh. I hope he’s talking with a professional who can help him through this.

I do wonder if he’s depressed. Clinician depression isn’t just being sad, it can look like apathy. Anhedonia is a symptom of depression. It can come with physical symptoms, too. It’s also really hard to recognize mental illness in yourself.

ETA: rumination is also a symptom of depression. It can create a cycle that is near impossible to break out of without external support.

  7. He needs a demotion to 3rd line minutes and 2nd PP until he gets it together. Chytil, Kakko, and cuylle have more than earned their playing time, and no one deserved the 1st pp more than laf

  8. I mean I want him to succeed. All his haters do. Also we’re stuck with him lol.

But he def looked like shit ln. Got Strome flashbacks.

  9. Fuckin learn quick buddy…. I love ya but my wife keeps saying it’s time to trade

  10. I wonder if he needs a change of scenery and to play in a city with less pressure on him to be able to succeed again. He has shown that he can be dominant. Some players just do better with less pressure.

  11. Having a kid must have gotten to him mentally. Having a child can be very mentally taxing and it can be something that is hurting his game.

Mental health is important, take care of it.

  12. You got too comfortable after getting the bag. We paid expecting a 1C, not a 3C special teams specialist

  13. A sports psychiatrist?! The sent him to a a sports psychiatrist?! That’s all nonsense. That’s nothing but a……

But seriously, I hope he gets better mentally. It’s simple as that.

  14. Give this man some therapy and a trip home to Sweden. Reset and come back Mika we ♥️ you

  15. One of my current ranger favorites. Every player has their ups and downs. It’s who comes back strong, imho. He will.

  16. Guy sounds like he needs to microdose and just sit on his roof and get fucking hammered, have his boys bring him to the rub n tug and feed him dollar slices until he shits himself in a gypsy cab.

Rinse and repeat about a dozen times until he fucking forgets about this and gets his mojo back

  17. No one wants Mika to struggle. We want the first line to be the best line. For that matter, no one wants Trouba, miller, or Lindy to suck. Fans would be more lenient if the same thing didn’t happen last season but it did.

  18. I said this on another post, but I think that management should come up with an injury, put him on LTIR, and give him a vacation until April to work through whatever’s going on. He can go see a sports psychologist, get used to being a new father, spend some time with his family, and get out of the pressure cooker that is playing at MSG for a while. Hopefully it would let him come back in a better headspace for the playoffs. In the meantime, we can pick up some rentals and beef the team up for a deep run.

  19. Even if he comes back, and gets locked in, I will ALWAYS be nervous lol. Guess that’s just par for the course, being a Rangers fan.

  20. He’s definitely injured. Pretty sure that random incident last night was whatever his underlying injury is flairing up.

It’s probably something small that wouldn’t prevent him from playing all together but something significant enough to hinder his play. I’m just speculating but every single game I increasingly think I’m right. If that’s the case Mika forfucksake just sit.

  21. You ever see the Pixar movie Elemental? When Lutz is bummed aht and the crowd starts chanting we love you Lutz and that inspired him to play better and take over the game. The garden needs to start chanting Mika! Mika!

Pretty sure the Phillies did someone similar with trae turner when he was in a huge slump

  22. This is why I’ve said he might need a sports psychologist. I think a lot of it is mental and he needs some help with it.

And listen, I’m not saying that as a dig of “go see a shrink, ya panty waist,” I’ve been through a couple courses of therapy over the years. Sometimes you need someone to speak objective truth into your life when you can’t see it yourself, or help you learn the disciplined that will get you through the difficult times of life. Who knows, maybe there’s more going on than just the hockey and he needs a little extra help with it all.

Sure we bitch about him a lot, but I don’t think any of us wants anything but for him to get whatever help he might need.

  23. Offensive struggles aside, there’s really no good reason why he should be turning the puck over as much as he does as well not playing a good 200 ft game. Those things are the most concerning here

  24. The Player Assistance Program is under utilized. Take some rest. We (players and fans) would prefer missed time now to later in the season.

  25. There is nothing stopping him waiving his NMC. Maybe a change of cities and teams is exactly what he needs.

  26. Sometimes hitting bottom on your mental game is how you pull yourself back up because one day you wake up and push all the noise away.

  27. Takes character for Mika to admit his mental struggle. While this is sports and criticism is always going to be a part of it just as “fans” are a derivative of fanatics, pro athletes are still human. If I criticize a player for their play I must also encourage and compliment the good they do. I love every player that’s on my team and always want them to succeed! I want management to help Mika get through his issues and many of you have already suggested good ideas to help him! Love you Mika, you can get through this! LGR!!

  28. To me, the game against San Jose is an easy ‘W’ so let him sit up in the press box Thursday night and observe the play.

  29. Mika is not the problem*

The problem is that when Mika has a week and a half of 4th liner hockey, our head coach benches the third line that’s actually producing, scoring goals, and defending well.

Mika can have slumps, every player goes through them. If our coaching staff is full of brain dead morons that would rather ice players in critical situations who are currently detrimental to winning games then they should be fired.

Fire Laviolette. Letting Mika fail on the ice instead of having him take a step back is inexcusable.
