McNeil’s second half improvement seems correlated with a change in his swing. You can see a comparison in the followup tweet here: https://x.com/foolishbb/status/1856345137485336751?s=46

[Mike Petriello also noticed this change](https://www.mlb.com/news/hitters-improving-by-swinging-faster-in-2024?partnerID=web_article-share)
Hopefully he can carry this adjustment and the improved results into next season
That golf seems to have been working.
The eye test passed here. Jeff was strafing the ball in the second half.
GKR talked about how he changed his approach from trying to slap the ball around to just trying to drive it
I’m sorry… what’s foolish?
I miss McNeil that just hit every ball that was ever thrown on 2 strikes. He used to be such an obnoxious hitter
Yeah but he sucks and he should be traded.
Counterpoint: he sucked for 70% of the season (first “half”), and history tells us we should probably trust that sample more than the end of the year.
Also relevant: he’s been a below average hitter 3 of the last 4 seasons and he’ll be 33. He is exactly the profile of a guy you should not rely on as a starter.
He def had more of the ichiro style swing during the second half, the same swing that won him the batting title. If he can do that all season he’ll go back to batting .300
If anyone is willing to take him, let him go. Maybe he can Daniel Murphy it for someone, but he just doesn’t fit the current team vibe.
Im very conflicted on McNeil cause I actually think the second half wasn’t a fluke.
But we have a lot of pieces coming up that he’s redundant with, and I think it’s important to keep Iglesias in the clubhouse.
Obv it would cost more than Jeff but I’d love to see us make a play for Devin Williams.
He said he stopped trying to place the ball and just hit the shit out of it. Trade him for crochet. Hes a beast now
I’d like to see the stats of the pitchers he faced for each of these too.
That’s still a below average bat speed
The guy won the batting title in 2022, has played every position except pitcher and catcher in the majors and is a legitimate everyday-caliber defender at three of them (2B, LF, RF), raked in the second half, and is on a very reasonable contract for a super-utility player. We’ve got a glut of middle infield prospects, sure, but the kind of versatility that he brings to the table even as a bench/super-U player is way more valuable than most people commenting here realize. Injuries happen and prospect performance sometimes ends up disappointing. Having a guy on the 26 man roster who can step up in a lot of potential roles, even if that role is on the bench for the first game of the season, has value. I’d take him over Marte in RF easily, at the very least. There’s a certain RF on the market that I’d take over both of them of course, but we’ll see if Uncle Steve and Stearns can come through there.
New Mets hitting coach Jeremy Clarkson
Yeah but like they should totally trade him for peanuts because “vibes” or some other shit
He’s my sleeper pick to get back to batting over .300. I think he’s a super useful player to have around, and I think he turned a corner this year that proves he’s not done yet. There’s no shift left to beat, but he’s too good an athlete to let that cripple him indefinitely. Besides, I’m immensely entertained by his antics, I need more squirrel cursing moments.
He obviously figured out what was wrong, fixed it and became his old self. If he didn’t make progress in the second half I would’ve wanted him gone. As for now I’d keep him.
