On the one hand my kneejerk is “we can fix him”, on the other hand, isn’t half of his issue that he’s made of glass
The range of outcomes for him is kind of insane, I can see him being absolutely terrible and injured for like half the season, or I can see him replicating his 2021 season.
Not sure if I’d be willing to roll the dice on him, but as a last resort it’s ok.
I mean I’ve been wanting a switch hitter. I don’t think a player with paper bones and skin would fare well on turf
I’d rather Jorge Polanco.
Oh god please no
Depends on the ask. Have to remember at one point he was the concensus top prospect in baseball and the centerpiece of the return they got for Chris Sale, however his value is insanely depressed due to the injury bug, general underperformance outside of 2021, and the LaRussa effect that seems to have destroyed every White Sox prospect outside of really only Luis Robert.
~~I don’t want the Jays moving any Top 10 prospects for him, but past that it wouldn’t be a half bad idea to use some magic beans prospects to land a magic beans type of player considering the depth at 3B~~
edit: didn’t realize they let him go, thought he was still in their system. Point still stands, he’s a decent reclamation project and you could do a lot worse as a FA signing
Being frugal on the 3B/2B addition and spending more on a LF addition makes sense to me if we’re working with a limited non-Soto budget (although I’m not 100% sure Moncada is my guy).
Bringing in another guy who might be an upgrade, but having the fall-back plan of Clement/Wagner/Barger taking over if they’re doing better isn’t the end of the world. That’s all assuming that they make solid additions in LF and the bullpen though.
Off topic so apologies. Just taking the chance to say hello. New fan from the UK joining up. Go Blue Jays!
Please no.
Tbh I always wondered what the ‘Phenom’ could have done if he didn’t go to the White Sox.. had immense talent for sure but the environment was trash.
You need a 1 year show-me deal, go for it. Provided that he clears all the medical stuff. He won’t cost much, and will be an alright addition to support the infield. Get Tyler O’Neil and a couple Relievers, trade for a starter and you’re ready to go.
Me: Ross can we have Soto?
Ross: No we have Soto at home.
His promo cards in MLB: The Show were incredible. His swing was so good. Seeing as video games are just like real life, I’m in!
He hasn’t been both productive and healthy since 2021 and we have a glut of MLB ready guys. None of these fringe/reclamation guys make much sense unless there’s a trade or two.
Don’t think he’s a fit for what the Jays need. A lot of risk here.
Another reclamation project? God, this has Shatkins written all over it.
A combination of Moncada and Santander would be fantastic and be more beneficial than Soto (although I would love Soto between vladdy and Bo in the lineup, it’s not my money in the end)
