Sports media’s migration from X to Bluesky has accelerated post-election

  1. So happy to see this. Sports commentary was basically non-existent for a long time on BlueSky. Hope it changes now

  2. I can’t help but think the sports media personalities are complicit in keeping Shitter afloat since Elon bought it. I have so many friends who stayed on the platform when it was clear the man was a fascist autocrat, just because they wanted their precious fantasy sports news ASAP. Would love to know how many people were sucked into Elon and Tucker’s fascist propaganda because they stayed on the hellsite.

  3. I just worry that I won’t be angry enough at the end of the day if I move over to bluesky ?

  4. That’s a start. It’s the media and news that needs to commit to leaving before there is a true shift in users. As long as Twitter is where the news breaks, it’ll stay relevant.

  5. So having used it for a few weeks now, BlueSky is very cool. Engagement is way better than Twitter, and it has the perks of fewer nazis! There’s a bit of a learning curve but you can find “starter packs” to follow specific groups (like baseball writers), and you can follow custom feeds with just about any topic. There’s no algorithm trying to force you content you don’t follow unless you go out of your way to follow a specific feed. No temu ads every other post. It’s great.

Verification is an issue though. An account presenting to be the Cleveland Guardians got a lot of attention and then Keith Law said this morning it wasn’t legit. So that needs to get worked out.

But more and more writers are starting to post there and I encourage everyone to support it as much as possible. If you’re a Reddit karma whore, normalize sharing BSKY links instead of X. That destabilizing, white supremacist site doesn’t deserve the traffic.

  6. Seems like this thread is being infiltrated by concern trolls “duh Twitter isn’t that bad”. It’s been dogshit since even before Musk bought it.

  7. This is great. For me, the only thing keeping me from uninstalling Twitter is sports news. Once that all migrates, I can finally close the app for good.

  8. Good. All too easy to want solely breaking sports news and thirst traps and still be drawn into ‘the discourse’ by the way the algorithm has been expertly crafted to put some of the dumbest motherfuckers on the planet into your feed.

  9. Starter packs is easily the best social media feature and makes it incredibly to easy to start up your account

  10. As someone who has been on Bluesky for about a year I’m really happy about this. Twitter has always been the place for up-to-the-minute sports info and I’m hoping Bluesky can serve the same purpose from now on.

  11. Honestly I got pushed off Twitter a few days ago because I felt like the algorithm was increasingly intentionally showing me niche hate tweets about things I like or that nobody should really have an issue with, namely indie pop band Magdalena Bay and fast casual restaurant Cava

  12. Please let this fully happen. Twitter is a fucking cesspool and staying there only promotes the ideas from said cesspool

  13. The only thing I wish BlueSky had (and maybe they do, and I just don’t know where it is) is like a Trending page that shows a list of topics that are trending.

That was how I found out about a lot of breaking news in the old Twitter days.

  14. Disregarding what you think of Musk, Twitter as a whole just sucks now between the influx of advertisements, the obvious bots spamming replies, and the lack of content control with all the gore and porn that doesn’t get deleted.

  15. I joined it, it would be a lot more enjoyable if every other post wasn’t dunking on Twitter

Yea I get it, Twitter sucks but you don’t need to post about it every 2 seconds

Also honestly I find the site dead to my interests, there’s like no one talking about video games, the WX community is dead over there, and other stuff. I get it takes time, but for now I’ll keep using Twitter mostly

  16. Passan still isn’t on there so until he, Olney and even Jon Heyman move there there’s still no point. I keep a twitter feed through tweetdeck on the side of my monitor, and all the tweets scroll by in real time. I was able to figureout how to do that for blue sky…but the problem is that nobody is posting anything because all the sports guys are still on X!

  17. I just kinda don’t want to have like 6 different social media profiles that are all saying the same thing.

  18. was the only reason I was still on Twitter. Glad their is an alternative I can check out now that I have deleted my Twitter.

  19. Twitter has become much less enjoyable since it was rebranded as X. Now, instead of seeing popular comments, monetized users’ comments are often displayed at the top. I live in Japan, and when I read comments from users with monetized badges, they’re frequently incoherent and almost impossible to understand. Is it the same situation in other countries? These users either write nonsensical Japanese or just copy unrelated Japanese text from somewhere else, so there’s no real conversation happening.

It’s especially bad during disasters. In the past, you could check Twitter and instantly find out where an earthquake had occurred, but now it’s completely useless. The monetized users just spread lies.

  20. It’s interesting that blue sky is a social media app, and X is a news app.. but they do the same thing? Why would blue sky classify itself as a social media app? Does they not want to compete with X?

  21. I left twitter not because of politics but because every post is now full of spam. It’s not the clean, effective news site it used to be.

  22. Idk i just ignore all the rage bait political bullshit and scroll by 🤷🏻‍♂️ it’s still the best app for funny live commentary on whatever is going on in the world

  23. The monthly reddit cope thread about xitter. Surely Mastodon will kill it this time. Surely Threads will kill it this time. Surely Bluesky will kill it this time.
