This season makes 10 years since Chris Borland retired after his rookie season. How good could he have been?

  1. He was great. I was really disappointed he decided to retire being so good. Best to him

  2. Assuming that he gave 100% and the concussion fear isn’t always on his mind, I think he would be around Greenlaw level. I don’t think he’s physically gifted enough to be Warner level.

  3. Really tough to answer with such a limited sample size honestly and I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer. I would be more curious though to check into what he’s been up to in the past ten years and how he’s enjoying life having made such a big decision so young.

  4. he wasn’t going to last because of his wreckless tackling style, but from his play the niners would’ve been in good hands once Willis retired.

  5. The guy was a gap filling missile, i wish him the best. He was a bright light in the darkness that followed 52 retiring.

  6. Very high ceiling. Assuming healthy, he’s probably a top 15 MLB and a 8-10 year starter. Capable of making a pro bowl. Don’t know if he could have ascended to Willis/Warner elite level, but it’s not totally outside the realm of possibility.

  7. He was great against the run, dont remember him being very good at coverage, would probably be a great will lb for us if he was coming out right now

  8. Always happy with players that call it quits before and can live a healthy life. I’m so scared what will be in tua life after football

  9. I’m baffled by how many people thought he was going to be a stud all-pro. He played 5 years in college too so there was plenty of evidence as to what kind of player he was.

Quick reminder: 3rd round pick on a declining team. Didn’t get onto the field until Willis was hurt. Served almost entirely as a missile into the hole for run defense. He was short, slow and had small arms. He was never good in pass coverage and had no ability for blitzing/pressuring the QB.

The dude was smart though. He saw that his career was going to be slamming into a bigger, stronger player 100-150 times a year and said “nah I’m good.” Respect to him for giving it all he could that one year, though. He played hard.

  10. Have we had a monster as 51? Boreland was 50, willis 52, bowman 53, Fred 54…56 and 58-59 are missing, idk say Ahmad Brooks was pretty good

  12. He’s drastically overrated, he never really figured out how to shed blockers and was slow. Lots of his tackles weren’t exactly at the line of scrimmage. He’d probably be comparable to what we currently get from De’vondre Campbell.
