  1. He’s a great pick. Obviously we love Ricardo but it would be a shame to take him away from Spanish listeners.

  2. He’s okay. I like him better than Justin Shackel. Maybe I should have gotten to listen to him more.

  3. Great choice. I believe he is already good friends with Susan. I think they will have a good vibe together.

  4. This guy’s good, but goddamn how lucky were we that we got Sterling back to still get to call one last World Series winning game back at the stadium last year?

  5. I don’t get this. Nothing against Dave Sims — he’s a terrific broadcaster — but he’s 71! He’s not going to be doing this much longer himself.

  6. Dave Sims is an incredible play by play. What a huge get for WFAN. I do feel for Rickie Ricardo. He did a great job filling in on an interim basis with zero advance notice.

  7. **Firstly…**

    – Great pro!

    – Great voice!

    – Great guy!

    – Smart guy!

    – Very well rounded!

    **Secondly…**

Two things usually considered negs, that maybe now i’d consider a good thing, at least with Sims, are:

    – pretty old, ****but**** very spry and wont be retiring anytime too soon nor would need to.

    – Sometime in Seattle he became somewhat of a hotdog, or showboater… but not too bush-league or overdone, he does it slyly so its not so cringe as what John Sterling often got criticized for, but also not as masterful as Michael Kay (so masterful as to not be cringe).

Defiantly a very good hire. And defiantly a very good listen.

  8. Phenomenal get. Just listen to his call of Cal Raleigh’s postseason clinching homer a couple of years ago.

  9. Still holding out hope it will be Rickey, but Sims has a great voice and would be a very fine pick as well.

  10. Dave Sims is one of the best TV announcers in the country for baseball by far. His calls are electric in the big moments. Also speaks very clearly and doesn’t get ahead of himself. He will be great to listen to on the radio.

  11. Exciting news. Sims was a pioneer of New York sports talk before WFAN even existed. Many great memories listening to his late night broadcast.
