Sam Darnold can ABSOLUTELY still play, but the Minnesota Vikings’ QB needs to cut the bad INTs

Former Minnesota Viking Alex Boone joins Phil Mackey to break down film of the Minnesota Vikings’ ugly win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last week! Upon further review, Sam Darnold can still play — but he needs to eliminate the bad interceptions. Also, Brian Flores’ defense is back to terrorizing opposing quarterbacks.

  1. The only reason I still watch Purple Daily is because of the Rino. It has become painfully obvious that Judd (the self proclaimed sports dad) knows less about football than the boy that is playing peewee football. Judd needs to be fired before everyone there losses their job.

  2. on another breakdown, for the first INT, from a different view, JJ actually fakes out Darnold. He acts like he's going to settle at the U but bleeds towards the G. All in all, tons to work on chemistry wise, but I'm not out on Darnold yet, especially after watching other games this week.

  3. If rino was OL coach, I'm sure he wouldn't settle for those 3 interior linemen to be starters.
One of these decades, Vikings have to build a solid foundation there….on the OL that is.
It's what Detroit and a few other contenders have done.

  4. I'm shocked neither of you point out how wide open Aaron Jones is on that second pick. He runs right in front of Sams face but his eyes almost never leave Jefferson. Darnold needs to see that check down and be okay with throwing it

  5. Darnold was playing very well for 4 to 5 weeks, then trade talk for a quarterback started to swirl around after Sam had an average game. Do you think it is a coincidene that Sam's play has diminished since those trade rumors? IMO there is a strong connection.

  6. I was ok with Cam not letting up on that one hit. Just because I believe there are too many times players pull up and then ball carrier tiptoes sideline as far as they can. There are a few qb's that seem to do it often., or will even break back inside.

  7. Phil let’s put together the amount of time over the years Darnold has played, and I’ll bet you has mistakes of interceptions can be forgiven where given more time he will cut back on his interceptions. Darnold is a quarterback that will make it in this league and I say that if he is signed to a contract to definitely use them next year, make the contract long enough so that he could be traded and be of big value.

  8. On the second pick at the front corner of the endzone, Darnold threw the ball before Jefferson made his cut. It was part of the play design. Unfortunately, the throw was high and a little behind him. If he threw the ball right to the pylon, it would not have been picked. Jefferson was not on the same page with Darnold either. He did not shoot for the pylon. I think he was expecting a high throw to the side line mid way into the endzone. It was poor play call against a zone defense. Darnold threw a poorly placed ball because he did not throw to the pylon or high and outside. Jefferson and Darnold were not on the same page. I blame the play call more than anything.

  9. To me anyways Sam Darnold seems to give off a little bit of a deer in the headlights sort of aura. He has enormous talent but it’s almost as if he doesn’t fully believe in himself. I’m not sure how that is fixable.

  10. When JJ went down we knew that this season ran through Sam, If you told me we would be 7-2, I would be over the moon, this season is a freebie, has me super excited for next year if we can keep Flores.

  11. I. Sam needs to get from 1 to 2 to 3 in his QB progression. Problem – Sam stayed on covered WRs instead of progressing. (Mostly JJ) II. If progression is covered do not stay in pocket and force a ball into coverage. A) Tuck and Go. B) Throw it away.
