We’re literally reporting on vibes now
So instead of $280 million we’ll offer $350 million (which won’t mean shit whenever I’m sure most of his other offers start at AT LEAST $450 million on a lowball)
Heard that before
Great so we can hang our hats on that when he signs with the Mets
John Henry said it’s “an offer that we feel comfortable with.”, so we already know the ceiling is somewhere in the neighborhood of 2/40m and a Costco hot dog
We’ll never know the offer. All we will get from the Red Sox is “he chose somewhere else.”

DOUBT
Fine, I’m ready to be hurt again.
Love to hear it. So you’re saying there is a chance.
I think people don’t understand that they really do love Soto the player, and the age he is at. It doesn’t mean if they don’t get Soto they will recklessly throw 300 mil at the next guy. No, they like SOTO. I don’t think they want to pay 30 year old Corbin burner like 300 mil
I just don’t see them offering Soto enough. They have repeatedly over several years now intentionally underspent massively over all ten teams they control.
Part of me hopes I’m wrong and we sign him. But the other part of me also doesn’t want the financial risk.
I’d like to believe it, but its just so easy to say “we offered 400 mil!” when everyone else is at 450.
lets see us lose out on a guy where we made the best offer and ill buy into this
Still shoulda done this for Mookie

Go back in time and make this offer to Mookie.

Yeah I’m not believing anything until I see him in a Red Sox uniform.
As sick as it would be to see Soto in a Sox jersey I honestly don’t think he alone changes the trajectory of this team. We need aces on the mound
BREAKING NEWS: REPORTS FROM THE SOX CAMP REVEAL THAT THEY HAVE MET WITH SOTO. THEY OFFERED HIM FRUIT BY THE FOOT AND A TOOTSIE ROLL!
Til Soto is in the uniform, in the box, about to take Cole deep, I refuse to believe
From the comments around here on all these posts, it’s almost as if the Boston media has been sucesssful in making fans forget all about the 300 million bucks they just gave Devers.

If they get outbid by the Mets, so be it. As long as he doesn’t go back to the Yankees I’m good. I’m just excited that it actually sounds like they’re in on him.
Man Soto is going to be one very very very rich guy
If they sign Soto then everything that has happened over the last couple years will be forgiven.
I’ll be honest, everything that the front office has done since around 2021 has pointed in the direction of landing Soto, and I thought so even back then.
– Sign Story who will be cheaper than Bogaerts to be the SS.
– Extend Devers to show fans that they will still spend (and ensure that Soto will have a fellow countryman who will be there long term)
– Avoid signing pitchers to massive deals, instead choosing to work with your farm and traded players or low risk high reward deals (such as Giolito). The exception of course being the attempt on signing Yamamoto.
– Build up the farm system so that you can trade prospects to fill out the rest of your team since free agency will be tougher with such a large contract on your books.
Devers and Story are the *only* significant long term contracts on the books. If they really want to go all out for Soto, they can. Mookie was a generational talent and I really wish we could have kept him, but Soto is a *once in a life time* talent. He could legitimately be the best hitter to put on a Red Sox uni since Ted Williams.
I’m not going to hold my breath, all of the above can just as easily be explained as simply cutting costs, but this front office has surprised us before, so I’ll remain hopeful.
they have to have papi and manny escort him down centre street in jp, wine and dine him, and show him the deep rooted Dominican culture in MA so he knows he will never be alone.
obviously we should pay him handsomely, but I hope the team understands that their offer must go beyond the salary number. another $50M won’t help him feel welcome in the city, only we can do that.

They need to hype up the red sox as massive contenders to scare the Yankees brass into paying an even bigger premium to retain Soto. Red Sox don’t spend money but play the game to try to bankrupt the Yankees to maybe be competitive when the Yankees are hampered. That’s my feeling on how they approach this.
Just makes no sense that our team of horrid defenders would pay 600+ million for another one when we have a plethora of outfielders. Obviously Soto is a generational player, but seriously don’t see us going over the top for offense when the issue is pitching.

Pass on Mookie at $350 but let’s give Soto $600m — makes sense
