Giannis getting disrespected like crazy. There is no way you can tell me DG or Sabonis are more valuable to their team than Giannis…

  1. I mean of course but mvp candidates are generally going to come from winning teams – just how it is. I imagine he’ll rise in the ranks as we rebound.

Like actually I am so far past expecting him to get respect. And honestly with the way the bucks have performed in the playoffs they shouldn’t get much respect (health obviously plays a factor but just saying). So my advice, don’t take anything seriously from the national media.

  3. That’s just something you made yourself hoping Giannis would see it and go nuts and drop 50 again tomorrow, right? He’s leading the league in scoring on 62% shooting. Who’s Darius Garland?

  4. We are 4-8 which disqualifies Giannis for MVP. Let’s get back to that 4th seed if we wanna see him ranked again.

  5. Can’t be 4-8 and get MVP nods. If had the same stats and they were 8-4 he’d be right up there.

  6. None of those players are putting the team on their back like Giannis, besides maybe Jokic. The MVP award truly means nothing nowadays.

  7. DG no…Sabonis absolutely is in the MVP neighborhood of Giannis. Kings instantly got ALOT better when he was traded there and he is basically Walmart Jokic.

  8. It’s still too early, hopefully we suddenly go on a 5+ win streak and maybe we’ll get back (but it will be on the lower end), if it’s a 10+ win then year then yeah Giannis for sure (but that’s VERY unlikely to happen with our team rn)

  9. I’ll play along. The Bucks are 4-8 (.333) and the Kings are 7-5 (.583). Giannis has a net rating of -1.4 (the Bucks are outscored by 1.4 points per 100 possessions when he’s on the floor) and Sabonis has a net rating of +9.4. So the Kings outscore their opponent by a decent amount when Sabonis is on the floor and the Bucks have been outscored when Giannis is on the floor. When Giannis goes to the bench the Bucks have a net rating of -4.2 (giving him a differential of +2.8, the Bucks are +2.8 points better per 100 possessions when he’s on the floor than when he’s off). And when Sabonis goes to the bench, the Kings have a net rating of -10.7 (giving him a differential of +20.1). So the Kings are a lot better than the Bucks when their respective stars are on the floor, and when they’re off the floor, the Kings take a much bigger hit – Sacramento is 20.1 points per 100 possessions worse than when Sabonis is on the floor, and the Bucks are only 2.8 points worse than when Giannis on the floor.

TL;DR – the Kings win their minutes when Sabonis is on the floor and when Giannis is on the floor, the Bucks are being outscored (Sabonis’ net rating is +10.8 points better than Giannis’). When Sabonis is off the floor, the Kings are much, much worse (-20.1 points per 100 possessions) than they are when he plays, while the Bucks are only a little worse with Giannis on the bench than when he plays (-2.8 points per 100 possessions).

To me, MVP depends on winning and how much you impact winning. The Bucks are not a good team when Giannis is on the floor (a real MVP candidate’s team cannot be outscored when he’s on the floor), and they’re not that much worse when he’s off the floor. If you’re putting up great numbers while that happens, it’s all empty calories.

Side note – Jokic has a net rating of +11.3. But when he’s off the floor the Nuggets have a net rating of -29.2 (!) So Denver is absolutely getting blown out when he’s off the court. The Nuggets are 39.8 points per 100 possessions better when he plays than when he doesn’t. And he’s had incredible on/off numbers like that season after season. That’s why he’s an MVP candidate – beyond the great numbers, he impacts winning so much when he plays.

    Milwaukee’s on/off numbers:

  10. Darius garland is valid bc his team is where they are… and giannis standing in the race is also valid bc his team is where they are.

  11. i mean you can’t really put a guy on a 4-8 team on the mvp ladder. that just isn’t how it works

  12. How can you be a MVP when you play on the worst team in the NBA? This roster was built by Giannis and this coaching staff was built by the owners. When that happens your franchise has failed. The GM should be running the show.

Bucks are better when Giannis or Dame don’t play together.

  13. MVP is a misnomer. It’s not about being the most valuable player for any team – it’s about being the most valuable player on a winning team.

We’re not there yet, but Giannis seems to be ready to will it into existence and I’m here for it.
