[AKRiley] I’m losing my sanity watching this pacers team attempt to play defense.

This is brutal stuff lol, transition defense and communication is nonexistent.
It started this way last year. Turned out alright.
Terrible effort. The starters with Mathurin imo just don’t work. TY “should” be your lone bad defender. However with the starters, Myles is slow and a poor defender, Mathurin plays slow on both offense and defense. Siakam is ok for the most part, but every screen he is switched off to TY / Myles / Mathurin who are poor defenders. Nesmith and Nembhard fit much better because you can hide TY a bit more and its only TY / Myles being the weak links defensively that teams can hunt. Now every defender is a weak defender minus maybe Siakam or Shepherd?
As a long time fan of Siakam, I’m telling you right now that he is a 2-way player but he is not OG Anunoby. He is an on-ball defender for 3s, 4s, 5s, and slow 1s and 2s. He will not make the highest IQ screen navigations and he should not be anchoring your defense. I really thought Myles Turner was going to be somewhat like Old Man Marc Gasol or Old Man Serge Ibaka in quarterbacking defenses but it looks like Indiana’s best defenders are Naismith, Shepperd, and Siakam which is not great. Siakam on defense is a tool not a system.
We just looked clueless last night which sucks because there’s been other times this season where we showed potential of good defense, we can just never stay consistent
