  1. Flip continues to prove why he’s making an all rookie team this season

    Solid Isaiah game

That’s was one of the Jazz games of all time. At least seeing Harden made me happy, remembering he’s likely going to retire without a ring

  2. GAME NOTES:

The Jazz did not hold a lead at all this game. In fact, they got down by 10 points late in the first quarter, and never got closer to that until the last 4 minutes of the game. A lot wrong defensively, and a lot of missed looks offensively.

As a team, we were 7-32 from above the break 3. Contrast that with 5-8 from the corner, it shows that we just weren’t getting to one of the most effective shots in basketball. We also missed all of our midrange jumpers.

On an individual level, Isaiah Collier was my favorite player tonight. Just 4 points on 2-3 shooting, 0-1 from deep, but 8 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals. When we started making that run in the 4th, it was led by his defense and aggressiveness on offense. He was getting involved in every offensive possession.

Another key contributor to the run was Jordan Clarkson. He was scoreless in the first half, and had all 21 points in the second half. His shooting stats aren’t great, 7-17, 2-11 from deep, but he turned it on and we started going on a run. He missed 5 shots in the second half, going 7-12. Despite his poor first half, he was major to us cutting the game to single digits.

John Collins had a great game, 13 points, 5-6 shooting (all inside the paint), 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Nearly all of his buckets was him being in the dunkers spot and receiving dishes from guards. No offensive rebounds for him tonight, and no blocks. The clippers shot well above league average from the paint, going 72.7%. Walker Kessler was missed tonight as Collins & Flip weren’t able to hold the fort down.

Markkanen still needs to shoot more. 18 points, 6-12 shooting, 4-8 from deep, a shocking 2-4 from the line, 10 rebounds (2 offensive), 1 assist, and 1 steal. I cannot stress enough how badly we need him to shoot more. He needs to be putting up like 15 shot attempts a night, minimum.

Flip had a good offensive night, going for 13 points on 5-10 shooting, and 3-4 from the line. 0-4 from deep, but just 2 rebounds tonight for him. 4 assists was a great positive, but he was neutralized by Zubac and Mo Bamba of all people. Still a great night for a rookie.

Keyonte George struggled again. 4-12 shooting, 1-8 from deep, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 turnovers to go with 9 points. His only made 3 was from the corner, while the rest of his misses came from the wing or above the break. Disheartening.

Sexton was a disappointment. Sure, 4-9 shooting, 3-5 from 3 is great for 11 points, but 3 turnovers and a team high 4 fouls in 20 minutes was not great. Wasn’t making smart plays out there.

Cody Williams had a good game offensively, but wasn’t much of a factor elsewhere outside of a couple of plays. 8 points on 3-5r shooting, 2-3 from deep, 4 rebounds (2 offensive), 1 assists, 1 steal, 1 block. His box score looks good, but on the floor he didn’t look good, especially on defense. Blown assignments, and was getting bodied mostly. Still had a great block, and stopped fastbreak. Definitely on the better games for him

That’s pretty much all i’ve got tonight. Nothing else really stood out. We had double the turnovers compared to the Clips, shot about tehe same, had about the same amount of rebounds, it just came down to the turnovers. We gave the Clippers 5 steals + 1 block in the first quarter which sunk us.

    3-10.

  3. We’re seeing the framework of a better team. Had they come out with the energy in the 4th for the whole game this was a super winnable one. But there are a lot of positives to take from this weekend.

Collier didn’t have a very good game last night, but was much better tonight, because he brought energy. He has real talent as a passer, dynamic in transition, pushes tempo. Lots of positives.

He and Flip continue to impress and Cody was better tonight than he has been. Made a few threes, had a nice drive and kick out for 3. He still is weak with the ball and loses his man off ball defensively, had some nice possessions on D and others he was too slight to make an impression on ball and where he was simply lost in transition, and had a really bad miss from 3, still being left wide open, but he is taking the shots now. That’s the first step. Being more assertive and we’re seeing that. Baby steps with him.

Keyonte was a bit better in the 4th but pretty awful for most of the game both in his play and in his body language and that is a big problem. I agree with others who don’t like it. He was listless, negative, throughout so much of the game.

Flip was a bit weak on the defensive boards against Zubac. In general he can be a better defensive rebounder. Get early positioning. He’s not gonna be bigger than many guys he faces. He has to make up for it with being early.

  4. Cody had some awesome flashes in this one. The block followed by the corner 3, then the stop on the 2-on-1 fast break in the 2nd quarter must have been big confidence builders for him.

Collier and Flip well outperforming their draft position has been awesome but has had the side effect of making Cody look disappointing in comparison, but tonight shows the potential is absolutely there. He’s just gonna take more patience.

  5. Clarkson and George continue to get bull of the guard minutes even when they look terrible but Sexton plays 20 mins total. Then you have fans justifying it lmao what a joke of coach . Collier and sexton should’ve finished the game. I don’t get the excessive clarkson miniutes

  6. Lost due to a really poor first half but nice to see us battle till the end. Here’s my thoughts on our guys.

Lauri – Double double but would like him to score a bit more. Was efficient but needs more touches. Guards have to do a better job of getting him the ball, then he can get to the line more.

Kyle – Struggled from 3 but overall a decent game. Was a bit hard for him on defense as Clippers consistently play 4 out 1 in and he can’t really guard Zubac, even though he did pull the chair on him in the first half to get him his third foul. A really good sign is that even though it wasn’t his best game, he still scored 13 points. 3/4 from the line too.

John – 13 and 8, we didn’t get him the ball enough on the mismatch. Played hard as usual but not as big of a performance as recently.

Collin – Only 20 minutes tonight, was steady whilst he was in. Would’ve closed with him over Keyonte for sure but guess Will kept Keyonte out there for experience.

Keyonte – This was not a good game from him. 4 turnovers and just looks so disengaged in general. Didn’t shoot it well and didn’t start the second half presumably due to his play in the first. As a starting PG in the league you have to show more than what he did in the first half. Dumb elbow on Powell summed up his day.

Jordan – 2-11 from 3 but was part of the bench unit that got us back in the game. +2, like his aggressiveness – not every night his shot is going to fall. Still had 21 points.

Isaiah – Nice to see him get the start in the second half and is really earning more minutes by the game. Turnover prone with 3 but had 8 assists, really energized the team in the second half with his play. Learning from watching Patty on how to have a positive impact on the team. Unfortunately that is the second game in a row he helped one pass away in the strong side corner, this time off Dunn who buried the 3. Doesn’t need to do that, that 3 iced the game.

Drew – 8 points in 17 minutes and +2 on the court. Worked hard as always, made some nifty shots which look weird but go in.

Cody – Two threes drilled, really nice to see. Unfortunately the team was very bad with him on the court, -19 in 19 minutes. Still, a positive sign that he made those threes – that kept Juzang out of the rotation altogether.

Will – Good to see him get a tech, we don’t get obvious fouls sometimes and I can see how it would frustrate him. I would’ve benched a few guys sooner when the lead went out to 15 or so but he stuck with his rotation and rode it out. You can see the players are playing hard for each other, think some stern words were said at halftime. Nice to see him smiling with Patty after what Harden was saying post Lauri’s offensive foul.

Lakers next, we should be more competitive for the whole 48 minutes since we aren’t coming off a back to back.

  7. The mistakes Collier makes, the turnovers, he has really dynamic moments as a help defender but is late on rotations on the perimeter, too physical on ball and picks up fouls, doesn’t make the right rotations, drives into traffic—-he makes a lot of mistakes but the mistakes he makes are the kind of mistakes that are fixable. Experience mistakes he will continue to learn from.
