Taylor Fritz has enjoyed a very successful second half of 2024 and is edging closer to that breakout victory at a top tournament.

The American played some brilliant tennis at the ATP Finals in Turin but couldn’t oust a relentless Jannik Sinner in the final.

Fritz lost twice to Sinner at the event, losing in the round-robin stages before meeting him once again in the final.

The 27-year-old was beaten in straight sets by the Italian player who managed to claim success in front of an adoring home crowd.

Still, all is not lost for Fritz and he will take a lot of heart into the Davis Cup later this month and then into 2025.

The USA star can take a lot from the last few months of 2024 having reached a first Grand Slam final and reached the final in Turin.

There are clear improvements in Fritz’s game and he’s now going to finish the season as the world number four.

After his latest defeat in a final, he’s chosen to praise Sinner and has posted an emotional message on X.

Fritz wrote: “Thank you for all the love and support this week in Torino. Came up short but what a year it’s been, congrats to @janniksin on an incredible week and year. One more final push at Davis Cup this week with the team.”

Fritz has showcased that he can win a Grand Slam title one day

There is still time on the side of Fritz but it’s perhaps a slight worry that Sinner is four years his junior.

However, Fritz is vastly improved from 12 months ago and he’s clearly worked very hard on his game over that period.

The USA star deserves a lot of praise for getting himself up to the fourth spot in the world rankings and this has to be just the start.

Fritz is one of the most likeable players on tour and he will receive a lot of backing as he bids to end the wait for a Grand Slam title in 2025.
