[Alden Gonzalez] Probably obvious already, but I’m told SP Sean Manaea will reject the Mets’ $21.05M qualifying offer. Nick Martinez is accepting his and staying with the Reds, as @francysromeroFR first reported. He’s the only known player to take it thus far. Deadline is 1 p.m. PT tomorrow.

  1. Mets are laser focused on SOTO. All the other contract talks are on the back seat for now. They’ve got 600M+ to spend first.

  2. I agree that it’s very unlikely that Sean accepts the QO. I wonder what Sevy’s chance of accepting the QO? Still unlikely but maybe better than Manaea?

  3. There was no way Manaea was accepting the QO.

Burnes and Snell are the big prizes in free agency this year, but I would prioritize keeping Manaea over them.

He was awesome here both on the field and as a personality fit.

And completing his transformation to being an ace here adds to how great it would be to keep him on board.

We have no idea how Burnes or Snell will work out here as mercenaries.

But we know Manaea can thrive here.

  4. I’m in the weird position where I’m iffy on bringing back either Manaea or Severino.

It’d be great to have one or both, but I think they’re both going to get more than they’re worth.

  5. I’d rather keep Manaea than Severino tbh. I’m just repeating the talking heads here, but he unlocked that arm angle thing and it could be amazing
