rosenthal on the sox:

  1. I mean yeah. Once Jeff Passan said something along the same lines the off season got exciting. Still a long shot for Soto but defo getting a few actual good pieces

  2. It seemed like they regretted the “full throttle” comment last year. If they’re really putting out so much smoke this year and don’t follow up on it they’re not just cheap they’re full-blown sickos.

  3. Considering Rosenthal was the only one who saw through their bullshit last winter and called them out early on, it bodes well that he thinks this. Still, he is a complete muppet.

  4. I hope this is true.

Honestly, I’m very willing to give Breslow a break on a lukewarm freshman season. It does make some sense to sit in the chair for a minute and really assess where the team is and what its needs are. If we start making moves here, I’m not about to hold ’24 against him.

  5. I think we were serious last season………about Yamamoto. That’s where the seriousness ended though. We made a very good offer but got outbid by the Dodgers. This winter I expect we will upgrade our pitching. I’m not sure about the offense though. We’re clearly serious about Soto but so are a handful of other teams. I give us a 20% chance. We’re not getting Teoscar. He’ll be staying in LA. And we didn’t offer O’Neil a qualifying offer, so I have doubts we work anything out with him. And that’s it……for free agents at least. I don’t see any other free agents who are a fit. I don’t even want guys like Santander or Adames. But all that is ok because we do have a very good opportunity to upgrade our pitching. There are multiple guys who could fit, either via FA or trade. So I think Rosenthal is right, we will make some impact moves. Just not high profile moves on offense.

  6. Doesn’t sound very Soto-ish.

Sounds more like maybe Teo, an ace and BP help which would be more than I expected.

    But like others have said.

  7. Soto isn’t worth the money. Mookie would’ve been. Sale was not. Red sox never learn. Don’t spend just to spend. Spend wisely.
