  1. Saw an article that said Jackson’s year wins if 4 out of 5 times and Skenes’s year wins it five out of five times. I found it hard to disagree. Congrats to both on jobs well done. Jackson has made his team a contender.

  2. They don’t say pitching is the hardest thing in sports… I’m a little salty but can’t be too mad about it. He had a good year too.

  3. Expected but still BS. The players know better and that’s exactly why Jackson won that ROY vote

  4. My Copium is that the Players themselves voted Merrill RoY.

He played 156 games and didnt duck lefties like Churrio. Skenes pitched in the NL Comedy Central, and had an ERA of 4.38 vs the NL Best.

  5. Looking at this objectively then yes, Skenes had one hell of a rookie year and deserved the award 100%. Looking at this as a Padre fan, this shit is some east coast media bias bs.

  6. Merrill carries this team to wins on his back in the best division of baseball. Not so much on the other side.

  7. I can’t wait until Merrill takes Skenes deep next season. Or wait that’s right maybe Merrill won’t face him cause he pitches every 5 or so days. This is some BS!

  8. As a baseball fan, Skenes put up insane numbers this year. Numbers that will go down as arguably the best rookie season as a pitcher ever.

As a Padres fan it’s fucking bullshit. Skenes played in a cupcake division, didn’t play the whole year let alone every day, and ducked out of starts. Also the only times he did play against good teams he was average at best.

  9. BS. Skenes is great. Nothing against him, but Merrill played every day, putting up veteran numbers and coming through in clutch moments.

  10. Skenes looks like he’s 40 years old. Merrill looks like a rookie, the kind that MLB can market to a younger crowd that baseball needs to grow.

  11. Both amazing players that both had a great season. Still, it’s comparing apples to oranges.

That said, I don’t think anyone is too shocked over this. I think most saw this outcome in the works.

  12. Pitching in the NL Central should automatically count against him. That division was weak as fuck and had almost no dominant hitters. Meanwhile Jackson was one of the main reasons the Padres even made the playoffs. Such bullshit.

  13. I thought us not winning a WS was the longest active streak in baseball. Don’t tell me there’s more.

  14. I can’t wait to see Skenes get absolutely destroyed next year while Merrill stays consistent

  15. Total horse manure. And I was a pitcher in college. Jackson put in a lot more of an impressive performance and helped get his team to the playoffs.

  16. Fourth rookie to win a silver slugger and not win ROY. (Owing,P,2007),(Biggio,C,1989),(Nokes,C,1987). First non pitcher/catcher rookie silver slugger winner to not win ROY.

  17. Merrill will just use this as fuel to knock the shit out of the teams that went for Skenes. Especially the NL West voters that went with the East Coast bias…
