The worst kept secret in baseball in the past few weeks
The last full season pitchers to win it in the NL were Jacob deGrom and Jose Fernandez. It’s been a while.
Should have been Jackson Merrill tbh
i mean i get it
im not happy about it, but i get it
Well deserved, he’s a beast
Here come the separate award arguments incoming
obviously; can’t wait to see Pirates fans be sore winners regarding Merrill lol
To the surprise of only padres fans.
They tried to meme merill into the RoTY but I don’t think a lot of people realize just how insane a rookie pitcher with a sub 2.00era in over 130 innings is
Buc Yeah!
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the Pirates don’t get a PPI draft pick because he wasn’t on the Opening Day roster or there within 2 weeks
Edit: He’ll finish Top 3 in Cy Young voting so they’ll get the pick there
I believe this gives him a full year of service time for the season now.
Dude was a top 3 Cy Young finisher and some people thought he wasn’t winning ROY
Skenes was the best pitcher in baseball since he debuted, absolutely deserved.
Skenes had some FILTHY pitches this year.
A full season of 130 ops+ centre field is a fantastic but not freakish season, whereas 130 innings of sub 2 ERA puts skenes among the best rookie pitchers in many many many years, it’s clear skenes had a more special season and is a better player.
Congrats to Livvy Dunne /s

Somehow this is the more normal result of the two ROTYs
Not at all surprising. I am still bummed we didn’t get to see them matchup.
Glad Shota got a couple down ballot votes. He deserved it.
Not super stoked about the decision but losing Roy to someone like Skenes at least makes it sting a little less
Good Lord. Shota came over and went 15-3 with a 2.91 ERA and barely got a passing glance at the bottom of the ballot.
